While Europe's sweeping new greenwashing laws made headlines in Jan, Canada's about to see amendments to the Competition Act that will have a BIG impact on what businesses can & can't say about their sustainability efforts. Is your marketing team prepared? we-are-uncommon.com/insights…
Happy Olympics opening day to all who celebrate. The Paris games are putting sustainability in sports in the spotlight, and we think that’s pretty cool.
An interesting case study in carbon footprint vs carbon shadow. Can a greener Olympics help shift perceptions & behaviours around sustainability?

Our infrastructure is not equipped for the extreme weather we’re only just beginning to see as a result of climate breakdown. What we CAN do is make sure we’re staying informed & checking on vulnerable people. And advocating at every opportunity for better climate policy.
Watching a combined sewer overflow (CSO) discharge into Lake after it rains is a helpless feeling. Not only bad for environment but risk to everyone who touches water. Ear, nose, eye & throat infection, stomach disorders, rashes fever, hepatitis & dysentery risks. @swimdrinkfish
The robots aren't coming. They're already here.
With massive impacts for the planet, jobs & society, we're asking the question: is it OK to use #AI if you care about sustainability?

What Sue said! More highways leads to more cars & LONGER commutes. Ugh.
Highway 413 will cause irreversible environmental devastation - and it won't even help the horrible Toronto commute! Please ask your MP to ensure the proposed highway undergoes a federal environmental assessment. #Stopthe413 ontarionature.good.do/stopth…
A+ climate messaging:

Words matter (we're communicators after all) but actions matter more. That's why we're proud members of @1PercentFTP, giving at least 1% of revenue every year to environmental causes, on top of our pro-bono work. Small change adds up: 1% has distributed $635m globally & counting.
Really looking forward to this event tomorrow! It’s very exciting to see climate communication being recognized as a critical part of the work needed to protect our planet 🌎
TOMORROW from 1-2 PM, meet Genevieve Guenther @doctorvive and Eric Roston @eroston at the #UNBookshop! They will discuss “The Language Of Climate Politics” and how to create transformative change in climate crisis communication. RSVP: forms.gle/L8ukNwzah8i5h7Lj8 #ClimateAction
GOOD NEWS! California, the world’s 5th largest economy, is showing how it’s done, producing over 100% of energy requirements from renewables for at least part of every day since March. AND it’s backed up with battery storage, keeping the grid clean at night🙌🏼
This is deeply shocking, and yet it’s barely raised an eyebrow across the country.
In leaked recordings, TC Energy staffers outlined a 7-part playbook about their allegedly outsized pro-oil and gas influence over everyone from premiers to CSIS to the Wall Street Journal. Here’s everything you need to know via @writermjs & @mikedesouza

I’m noticing a trend where environmental nonprofits are issuing calls to action with “I need you to” language. I don’t like it.
Communication should be about building community & trust, not making demands.
If you doubt the power of communication to influence climate outcomes, you should read this.
Now, let’s channel that power for good.
INVESTIGATION: In a leaked audio recording, a TC Energy exec — & former BC NDP staffer — made bold claims about how the fossil fuel giant leveraged political connections to weaken government climate policy. B.C. Attorney General Niki Sharma wants a probe. thenarwhal.ca/tc-energy-leak…

Pride Month may be the only time some companies show visible support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. How can we be better allies? I talked to Toronto agency @The519 for ideas: new.express.adobe.com/webpag…
