🌟 This spotlight celebrates Konstantinos’ successful PhD defense in May 2026, including a look into the defense. In a short interview that follows, he reflects on his defense and his thesis, “Cutting Through the Virtual Memory Wall,” which tackles the growing set of performance and energy bottlenecks in address translation and memory allocation. Konstantinos summarizes the key contributions of his thesis: Virtuoso, Victima, Utopia, Revelator, TRAIL, and Valinor, and shares the two core adaptive traits that helped him through the PhD journey, and talks about his academic career goals going forward.

⚙️ Data prefetching, off-chip prediction — so many techniques are in the sleeves of microarchitects for memory latency hiding. But have you ever wondered how they behave in the presence of each other? Do they destroy each other’s benefit? Or do they improve together? What happens when your processor has less DRAM bandwidth? We introduce Athena, a new RL-based framework to coordinate off-chip predictor in the presence of multiple prefetchers employed in today’s high-performance processors.
