Bangladesh is crippled by a media blackout, with intelligence agencies fully controlling TV channels and print media. Journalists are compelled to practice self-censorship, using state-approved content, while popular social networks are restricted with frequent internet interference. Yet, the people of Bangladesh are inspired by the brave journalists, human rights defenders, civil society members, and online activists at home and abroad, who dare to reveal the true picture of the nationwide protests. I salute all of them for demonstrating their uncompromising commitment to justice, fairness, and truth. Along with the nation, I urge the media professionals who continue to comply with the regime’s agenda to muster their courage and overpower threats, support this movement that has united all Bangladeshis except affiliates of the regime, and share accurate facts, figures, and casualties with the public and the wider world. If not now, when will they serve Bangladesh with integrity and patriotism, free from fear and pressure?

The quest for freedom and the aspiration for liberation have never been more pronounced in the history of Bangladesh. We're an aggrieved nation, transcending politics and policies, committed to ending Sheikh Hasina's dictatorship with unwavering struggle and sacrifice. Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP @bdbnp78 believes that not a single drop of blood will go in vain. We are determined to ensure justice for the genocide and bring fair trials to hold the perpetrators responsible. I call upon all Bangladeshis, including government officials and members of law enforcement agencies and armed forces, to choose the right side between the repressive regime and our country itself.

While citizens across Bangladesh, particularly courageous students, continue to demonstrate people’s power in the face of state-sponsored genocide and systematic repression, we appreciate the international community for standing up for justice and fairness. From the United Nations to the European Union, and to democratic countries and institutions around the world, the people of Bangladesh draw inspiration from your support and expect a resolute stand to restore our due rights and freedoms. The reports and statements from credible human rights organisations and international media, along with the solidarity of student bodies such as the National Union of Students UK, mean a lot to the pro-democracy Bangladeshis. We believe, this mass uprising of unprecedented scale, will bring an end to the brutal dictatorship.

Threatening, muzzling, suppressing, intimidating, or blocking—these are among their tools. Despite this, my voice will grow louder, and my pen will continue to write across borders. Questions are welcome where freedom matters, but are blocked where freedom can't shine. Threatening journalists is a crime and is never acceptable. Period. @behlihyi @meeganguly @amnestysasia @RSF_inter @freedomhouse @rtoforg @CPJAsia @whca @UNCANews @AngelitaBaeyens @State_SCA

Today's events in Uttara are alarming. Police and helmeted members of Chhatra League and Jubo League were continuously firing. Armed with guns, machetes, and other deadly weapons, they attacked. Students sought refuge in houses, but League members followed and assaulted them, including female students. Reports indicate multiple deaths. See the footage where Chhatra League cadres are seen with arms.

Hasina's police have opened fire once again today. This footage is from Uttara, Dhaka. If the international community does not stand with Bangladeshi students, it will bear responsibility for all the consequences that may follow.

Pabna city is awash with a sea of students and citizens. Not an inch of space remains around the protest site. The police stand indifferent. Should the people continue to rise in such numbers, those in power will surely flee. #StepDownHasina
