The hallmark of tuberculosis is persistence of the bacteria. World Tuberculosis Day is a reminder that the world must persist in making steady progress against this leading killer and supporting patients and health care workers everywhere. linkedin.com/pulse/tuberculo…

Yesterday, Rubio terminated 5800 USAID contracts – more than 90% of its foreign aid programs – in defiance of the courts.
Here’s a list of just some of the lifesaving awards that were terminated. Nearly all were Congressional mandated. They've saved millions of lives. 🧵

Administration has taken a wrecking ball to critical TB programming + services across the 🌍. We support our partners at the TB Community Coordination Hub,
led by TB advocates + workers in global south, whose work has been woefully damaged by U.S. funding cuts. #RestoreTBFunding

Elon Musk said DOGE made a mistake by cutting USAID’s Ebola prevention but it had been “restored.”
That’s not true, current and former officials told me and @John_Hudson.
“There have been no efforts to ‘turn on’” Ebola prevention, said Nidhi Bouri, who oversaw team til January.

So - I've actually led Ebola outbreak response at @USAID.
This is bunk from Elon. They have laid off most of the experts, they're bankrupting most of the partner orgs, have withdrawn from WHO, and muzzled CDC.
What's left is a fig-leaf effort to cover their asses politically.

Our international partners + allies are being severely harmed by the shameful USG funding freezes.
The US government's funding freeze is wreaking havoc across vital healthcare services in South Africa, creating an unprecedented crisis for people living with & affected by HIV & TB. itpcglobal.org/2025/02/10/so…

My office just heard from a homeless services provider in San Diego that their funding will be paused for 90 days.
They help house over 1,000 people in SD and will go under if Trump's order goes through. I'll do everything in my power to stop this unconstitutional power grab.

Breaking: The White House just fired the CDC employee responsible for allocating CDC funds to WHO. It's the latest of a long line of actions that are, sadly, unraveling USG from WHO. CDC funding for WHO is for US priorities & benefit the US population.

President Trump just shut down external communications, hiring, and other agency functions at NIH—a devastating blow to their lifesaving medical research.
I'm leading the call with Sen. @ChrisVanHollen and @Sen_Alsobrooks to restore full operations at @NIH and across HHS now.
Democrats are calling on Trump officials to “restore full operations at NIH,” warning that it’s threatening medical research.
“Without quick corrective action, the consequences of further disruption could be disastrous,” @RepRaskin, @ChrisVanHollen and @Sen_Alsobrooks write.
