Lame analysis once again. The same stupid nonsense, blaming the backline when our biggest problem was the midfield. Pedri and Rodri were absolutely awful, losing possession far too many times in dangerous areas. Yamal was nowhere to be seen. Cucurella completely locked him down, and when Yamal finally had a clear one-on-one opportunity, he couldn't even hit the target. And don't even get me started on Gordon. Every single time he had space to exploit, he chose to play it safe instead of taking advantage of it. Constantly slowing down our attacks, killing the momentum, and making pointless decisions when he had acres of space in front of him. Absolute nonsense. What's the point of having all that space if you're just going to waste it every single time? Our midfield and attack were absolute shit, and THAT is why we lost. You could put prime Maldini and Baresi in this system, and even they would make mistakes because they'd constantly be left exposed. It's not about the quality of our defenders. It's about the fking system and how vulnerable it leaves them. Yes, we need to sign another defender for depth. Nobody is denying that. But even the best defenders in football history wouldn't make a difference if we keep making these stupid turnovers in midfield and attack. You cannot keep giving the ball away in dangerous areas, leaving your entire defensive line exposed, and then act surprised when the opposition creates chances. What exactly do people expect our defenders to do? And look at Balde. He actually had a good game, but once again, Flick made another questionable decision. He barely gave Balde any minutes to build rhythm and match fitness, only to throw him straight into a massive game because of injuries. Luckily, Balde didn't make any major mistakes and actually performed well, but that doesn't change the fact that the decision was risky and completely unnecessary. And even with Balde playing well, the entire team was still getting exposed every time we lost possession. That's exactly my point! It doesn't matter who plays at the back when the players ahead of them keep making ridiculous mistakes and leaving them completely vulnerable. When our midfielders and attackers keep making mistake after mistake, carelessly giving the ball away, failing to control games, and wasting the chances they get, we're going to keep losing these big matches. You cannot expect the defenders to perform miracles every single time the players ahead of them screw up. Stop making the backline the scapegoat for everything. Our problems go far beyond individual defenders, and until we address the actual issues, the same thing will keep happening. It's really that simple.
