Major @TheShotgunStart In, Out, Alternate vibes here.
I mean, just an all-time TV segment. Making Chuck do Who He Play For multiple times in a row with the same players is a brilliant idea and I was legit crying laughing by the end, my god.

Trump says that if Republicans lose in North Carolina he will use the power of his office to deny US Marine Corps veterans’ claims for medical treatment for cancer and other life threatening diseases resulting from decades of water contamination by toxic chemicals at Camp Lejeune
Trump on Camp Lejeune water contamination claims: "If we win the House and Senate, I am directing the Department of Justice to settle all remaining legitimate claims as soon as possible ... if we don't win, there's no money."

A huge gift from Trump to our ally Russia.
NEW: The order to limit a satellite system used by Ukraine for battlefield communications and drone operations came from inside the White House, according to two US officials and a Western official briefed on the matter.

Billions of dollars’ worth of contracts predicting oil would fall and the S&P 500 would rise were placed about 15 minutes before Trump announced a U-turn on Iran in a post on Truth Social. CFTC staff began to investigate-- then were told to lay off. bloomberg.com/news/features/…

If you’re wondering why we’re talking about televised firing squads all of a sudden it’s because it was finally revealed we lost *an entire base* in Kuwait and our troops didn’t have enough bullets to defend it. A career ender for Hegseth in any other world.

As a homicide detective, I can say with all of my being that there is no lesson learned in seeing someone die. But there is a price. And that price is your peace. Your decency. And the soul of our society. We don’t have to be this way, this fake tough but real ugly way. Stop
Breaking news: The firing squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Malik Hasan will be live-streamed, the Defense Department said. “People need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things,” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said. wapo.st/4hNxK0C

the Vice President of the United States has gone on record citing this man as one of his biggest intellectual influences if you didn't know this, it's probably because for some reason literally no mainstream political media outlets think it's worth mentioning

DHS's goofy assumption that a $100k fee on STEM OPT won't reduce STEM OPT participation is necessary for them to argue their plan won't be detrimental to the US economy. Once you account for the fact this will shrink the skilled STEM workforce, this kind of change will conservatively cost the US $240-481 billion a year, or about $1,000 per household. From @m_clem, @AmyMNice, and my work for @theNASEM: nap.nationalacademies.org/re…
This morning, DHS released a new proposal for large new fees on Optional Practical Training (OPT), to be paid by schools: $70,000 for one year of OPT, plus another $30,000 for the STEM extension. DHS assumes that for STEM grads, there will be ZERO change in participation.

New England is a great example of why energy regulation via permitting-friction is structurally bad for clean energy: - Fossil fuels can be transported several ways, making them flexible — if a pipeline gets blocked fossil can move on ships or trains. - Clean electricity HAS to move on transmission lines that connect generation in specific locations to market. - Permitting and other frictional costs are bad for building all complex infrastructure, BUT that's much worse for clean energy than for fossil. Case in point: New England - Over the last 10 years several pipelines to bring natural gas into New England were blocked. - At the same time major transmission projects to bring hydro power from Canada to New England was also blocked/delayed. - What happened when both pipelines and transmission lines were constrained? We just shipped more expensive natural gas to New England on tankers because fossil is more flexible under frictional costs - Ironically New England often ends up using dirtier foreign LNG because of the Jones Act xitter.cf/mattyglesias/status/21…
Blocking gas infrastructure in New England hasn’t caused renewables to magically sprout, it just means that electricity is expensive to “electrify everything” is unattractive. We need a better strategy. slowboring.com/p/the-permitt…

I think something to consider here is that Collins voted to confirm Russ Vought as OMB Director despite the fact that he said a billion times that he thought Trump had a constitutional right to illegally impound funds, and now she’s doing shocked Pikachu reactions.
Without warning or consultation, Congress just received an $810 million package of pocket rescissions from the Administration.  This is the most recent attempt by this Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to undermine Congress’s Constitutional power of the purse.    This move shows that OMB intentionally withheld these funds for months to execute this unlawful cancellation of appropriations that were approved on a bipartisan basis and signed into law.     Not only is the delay itself an impoundment that was not reported to Congress, but also it is a usurpation of Congress’s appropriations powers.  OMB is an agency of the executive branch.  It does not get to decide which programs are worth funding.   The independent Government Accountability Office has concluded that pocket rescissions are unlawful and not permitted by the Impoundment Control Act. Any effort to rescind appropriated funds without congressional approval is a clear violation of the law.   I will work with my colleagues to address these illegal actions.

Read this thread. Deep corruption by Susan Collins.
Sen. Susan Collins helped steer millions in federal defense contracts to Navatek, whose CEO illegally funneled thousands of dollars to her campaign. The FBI sought to launch a probe and was eyeing Collins and other lawmakers. Then Trump gutted the unit in charge. THREAD 🧵
