Unless I’m missing something, I’m not sure this is a resigning and retiring offence for Stokes. Silly, yes. But if he wasn’t the agitator, only acted in self defence and simply broke a midnight curfew - it would be a sorry way to say goodbye to an English cricketing legend.

Just seems a bit weird that apparently Arsenal are incapable of creating from open play and can only do it from Setpieces but every week teams put 10 behind the ball against Arsenal (why? They can’t create from open play?) and risk conceding more Setpieces? Doesn’t seem smart.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all the lovely comments about Early Doors. Just thought I would let people know that it’s available to watch on iPlayer. Hope you enjoy watching it again🍻

There’s been sneering about the quality of the match last night from those who watched it on TV. I think that’s grossly unfair, both clubs have histories at a higher level & expectations of returning to former glories. So fair play to both Southend and Forest Green Rovers, I enjoyed watching it.

A full Premier League team of players whose initials matched their position. Are there any more?

From brusque typed contracts to hearing it on the BBC Light programme, from scanning Ceefax to replying to a WhatsApp saying “Ashes?” with “lol”, this is rather lovely by @Jimbo_Cricket for @WisdenCricket on how England cricketers have learnt of selection theguardian.com/sport/2025/m…
Why have I just watched this again? Still one of the most painful afternoons ever (although after 37 years I can finally appreciate the brilliance of Ashley Grimes's cross for the winner)

You can preach all you like about the importance of finishing second, the need to stay switched on in the league etc. But given the way things have shaped up, the fact we’re in the last four of the CL, a competition this great club has never won and the opportunity that’s in front of us to make history. The idea we’d be able to focus on both, knowing the title has been gone for months is fanciful at best. We’ll be back up there next season. All about Europe now.

Starting today, a weekly series on Sketches of London, looking at the characters and customs of the capital beginning with the peacocks and traders of Old Spitalfields. Very grateful to our super new London editor @silvesterldn for going for it

It was ten years ago today, we lost Terry, still in our thoughts and very much missed.

I like how The Pope's page looks like he's scored a late winner and is giving the away end some grief.

Henry gave a cop out “ask Mikel” response when Micah pushed back on the Salah vs Saka injuries. Salah pulled his hamstring last season. Guess when he did it? AFCON. Guess where Saka first pulled his? International duty. Salah, unlike Saka, had a proper summer off-season break to recover and build up his base whereas Saka did not (and hasn’t for years). That’s the major difference. Let’s have honest conversations rather than disingenuous ones, esp when the platform is that large.

Given the abuse Kai Havertz has received on social media recently was it really necessary to mention him here. Leaving aside it is an article that is also hugely disrespectful to Newcastle
