Yesterday, Matt Lawton of the Times and Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail reported how Man City intends to appeal the decision of the Independent Commission, which must have been briefed by top execs at City.
The components of the appeal as reported:
1., That the Commission did not properly weigh the evidence regarding Man City’s “CPC explanation” for the payments to sponsors, including witness testimony and documentary evidence
2., That the Commission’s finding of fact that Man City and its sponsors are Related Parties is perverse
3., That the decision took too long to arrive at, making it unsafe
4., That the Commission made other perverse findings of fact that call its decision into question, such as Sheikh Mansour not being aware of the Disguised Equity Scheme
5., That this process should not be subject to the fast-track appeal process added in the 26/27 PL Handbook
Interestingly, there is no mention of challenging the legal basis of the rules. That could be because Lord Pannick already attempted this on Man City’s behalf in Section X arbitration in 2024. Whilst trying to undermine APT rules, he put forward six arguments that could also undermine the concept of FMV, thereby gutting the RPT / PSR rules that Man City have been found to have broken. The Panel was formed of 3 heavy weights who denied all 6 arguments. And in response, they even stated that preventing avoidance of PSR and ensuring its effectiveness was "a legitimate objective" and expressly described PSR as rules "which are not anti-competitive in nature.” A massive own-goal for Pannick because this sets a powerful precedent to any further challenge of the rules in law.
In the thread below, I outline the other issues Man City will likely face with their appeal, component by component (referencing and linking prior analysis)… 🧵

Tom Brady says his career turned around when a sports psychologist told him to stop complaining about what he wasn’t getting and start stewarding what he had the right way
“Greg said to me, ‘Why don’t you quit bitching about all the things you’re not getting, and how about you do the best with whatever opportunities you get?’, ‘Stop worrying about what the other quarterback’s getting. Stop worrying about what the coach is saying to you.’”
“‘Every time you get in there, you bring the juice. You bring the energy. You bring the enthusiasm. You treat practice like a game.’ Because if you just decide to go out there and you’re blaming everybody else, where does that get you? So I started to change my attitude.”
“I didn’t have a lot of confidence in myself. And when you don’t have a lot of confidence in yourself, you blame other people. When you gain confidence in yourself, you start pointing the finger at yourself.”
“I would encourage every athlete to look in the mirror after every day of practice or a game and say, ‘What can I do better to help the team? What can I do better?’”
“Not, ‘What does the coach need to do better?’ Not, ‘What do my teammates need to do better?’, ‘What do I need to do better?’ If every player does that, you’re going to have an incredible team.”
“You can’t have a false confidence. You don’t only gain your confidence because of your physical ability. You gain your confidence because you’re prepared, because you’re competitive. I couldn’t just show up and be better than everybody.”
“I had to show up prepared. I had to show up with energy. I had to show up with my body feeling right. I had to show up like I was on a mission.”

Tim McMahon takes a shot at Enes Kanter:
“When he went to Dallas he felt he was coming in to be the final piece. At this point in his career he’s a shooting specialist. He used to be an amazing hall of fame two way wing. You have to protect him defensively now. But the Heat are as desperate for shooting as Enes Kanter is for attention.”

🚨💬 Jamal Musiala on his health situation:
“I have been diagnosed with temporary, brief absences that are caused by a neurological dysfunction. These can lead to moments like those recently seen against Leipzig or now in Heidenheim.
I know they may look scary at first, but for me they are currently part of my everyday life. I am receiving the best possible medical treatment and I am very optimistic.
FC Bayern and my private circle are always by my side and supporting me on this journey. Importantly, there is no further health risk.”

Yan started playing pro ball in 2014. Blew out his elbow at 19. Didn't pitch in pro ball for five seasons. During that time, he worked as a roofer, landscaper, and delivery driver. He was playing in a local Sunday league for a team called the Expendables. Let the man celebrate.

The famous incident from the 2003 Carlsberg Cup, where Danish midfielder Morten Wieghorst intentionally missed a penalty against Iran.
The referee had awarded the penalty because an Iranian defender caught the ball with his hands inside the box, mistakenly thinking he had heard the half-time whistle.Since the penalty was awarded due to a misunderstanding, Wieghorst consulted his coach and deliberately fired his shot wide as a display of sportsmanship, an act for which he later won an Olympic Committee Fair Play Award.
