Making Censorship Fail As autocrats build digital walls, democratic movements must help shape the technologies that can bring them down. @maradiaga felixmaradiaga1.substack.com…

Today marked my first day back in Westminster aftalmost a year where I attended a reception with the @WFD_Democracy which brought UK Parliamentarians, ambassadors and civil society. Together we heard from @CommonsSpeaker who hosted the event and others on how parliamentary oversight, cooperation, and open dialogue can strengthen democratic resilience and security. It is virally importance that we protect our democratic institutions, uphold the rule of law, and keep channels of communication open as we all face shared challenges in what is a tumultuous time across the democratic world. @democracywb

I urge the UK Government to act on the persecution and forced displacement of Hazaras in Afghanistan. Reports of home seizures, forced evictions and intimidation in Kabul and other regions demand urgent scrutiny. @hrw @amnesty @SR_Afghanistan #StopHazaraForcedDisplacement

I too support the #NoToExecutionTuesdays campaign. On 20 Oct the Iranian prisoners’ campaign marks its 143rd consecutive week. @SRfreedex_LMG joins tomorrow with a 24-hr hunger strike following @Ginitastar last week. Stand with them. End the executions.

The motion commemorating the Hazara genocide, moved by Anthony D'Adam MLC, has officially passed the NSW Legislative Council on 15 October 2026. This is a historic moment for the Hazara community & a significant step in our ongoing struggle for recognition/justice/accountability

Quiet engagement is no longer an option. #Rohingya in Rakhine do not have time to wait @FCDOGovUK @UKUN_NewYork #RohingyaGenocide
The past few weeks have been truly devastating for #Rohingya. Governments are moving towards returns, deals and renewed engagement with the #MyanmarMilitary. Meanwhile, the news from #RakhineState is truly horrifying. Our sources tell us Rohingya are trapped between Myanmar military airstrikes and their communities terrorised by the #ArakanArmy. Young Rohingya are forcibly recruited to become human shields. People are being arrested and extorted. Families are fleeing. Homes, land and villages are taken by the Arakan Army. On 28 September, 34 Rohingya from one village in #Rathedaung were arrested at once by Arakan Army. The next day, one man was returned to his family dead. The other 33 are still missing. Their families have been given no answers. Politics is going backwards while Rohingya face total erasure. This is an emergency.

“Constructive challenge requires us to put aside comfortable illusions and to deal with the world as it is, not the world as we would like it to be. This is the heart of good policy-making.” Opening the fifth Cambridge Afghanistan Series, Sir Laurie Bristow, President of Hughes Hall, Cambridge and former UK Ambassador to Afghanistan, reflected on lessons from the past 25 years and on how ideas for a different future can be translated into practical progress. He argued that the next stage of work around the Comprehensive Composite Roadmap (CCR) needs to move beyond identifying desirable outcomes towards a clear “theory of change”: understanding how change can actually happen, who has influence and resources, what the critical steps and trade-offs are, and what must happen first. Sir Laurie also stressed the importance of realism — about conditions inside Afghanistan, the international political environment and the limits of external intervention — while emphasising that any lasting political future must ultimately be determined by the people of Afghanistan themselves. His opening keynote set the tone for CAS-V: Moving from Vision to Reality – The Roadmaps to Inclusion in Afghanistan, held at Jesus College, Cambridge. @laurie_bristow @Hughes_Hall @Cambridge_Uni @RUSI_org @lseideas @theELN #CambridgeAfghanistanSeries #CASV #Afghanistan #Governance #Peacebuilding #ForeignPolicy

On the World Day Against the Death Penalty, expose Iran’s execution machine. In 2026, protesters have been executed while others face death sentences. Iran HRM’s report documents those executed and those arrested and at risk. Name them. Save lives. #StopExecutionsinIran iran-hrm.com/2026/10/09/iran…

In @UKParliament I have frequently warned about the CCP’s infiltration of UK universities and their dependency on CCP regime money. I drew the attention of @BorisJohnson to his brother’s excellent report on the buying up of our universities and told @RishiSunak of the appalling treatment of non compliant academics like @MShipworth . In @HouseofCommons @MPIainDS has frequently and diligently warned of the dangers. The @HumanRightsCtte called on @DanJarvisMBE and the Starmer Government to put for the CCP regime in the top tier of the foreign influence registration scheme. It still hasn’t happened. davidalton.net/?s=+JCHR+repo…+ As today’s report in the Telegraph makes clear, this is negligent in the extreme.
