I'm not nostalgic for the midrange-budget drama: they came with so many strings attached that directors were tied down like Gulliver on Lilliput. It was a recipe for either applauded just-above-average successes or derided exceptionally good (via struggle and conflict) bombs.
Aaron Sorkin speaks on the demise of the mid-range-budget movie: “This [The Social Reckoning] is my 11th movie, and except for A Few Good Men, I’m not sure if any of them would be feature films today; I think they would all have to be streaming.” Listen to Sorkin's full episode of THR's Awards Chatter podcast: hollywoodreporter.com/movies…

Felt very strange to see The Shining international cut (I wrote a short review why I didn't find it as good as the longer American cut) and to not see the scene with the doctor and Shelly Duvall trying to excuse her husband's abuse with the longest cigarette ash.

Exactly; both terms describe genres, and, as such, are a matter of marketing and convenience—useful, vague, elastic, non-exclusive, and, yes, to use your word and Bazin's, impure.
A film can be neither fiction nor documentary while also, simultaneously, containing elements of both. Indeed, every film contains elements of both

Okay, so here's the thing. If you didn't read Bad Blood or the early WSJ reporting about Holmes (which I did, obsessively, because I am obsessed with scammers) you had a completely different experience of this movie. You *cannot* have engaged with that media, and then
Okay, I saw You Can See Everything. And I'm about 95 percent convinced Elizabeth Holmes picks unpleasant, awful men to be her partners because she looks better and slightly victimized by comparison. Because I'm sorry - she's just *awful.*

word around filmtwt is that the big halloween costume this year will be erland josephson's mr. alexander from The Sacrifice. fans will be donning the actor's instantly recognizable yin-yang kimono and re-enacting the "absolutely batshit" final scene of tarkovsky's masterwork.

There is no krav maga, it's fake, like you would expect. It's all taken from jiu jitsu, but with dirty fighting like eye pokes.

We acknowledge that no one has the bandwidth for this, but if it helps: -It’s ‘sleight of hand’ -It’s ‘bated breath’ -It’s ‘lo and behold’ -It's 'buck naked' -It’s ‘brass tacks’ -It’s ‘free rein’ -It’s ‘toe the line'
