Well, I guess it’s time to add “the next motherfucker” to the recall list.
Wherein Tanya Fir refers to the next caller on her “callback list” as the “next motherfucker”….
After she failed to hang up the phone properly.
Just the most competent government ever.

Albertans are getting screwed.
A quarter-billion in unpaid property taxes. Countless billions more in environmental liabilities. And an energy regulator that can't be trusted.

Danielle Smith’s gone full MAGA on this one. She could have gone to arbitration, but no, she’s trying to break the union. Why? She wants to privatize education through charter & private schools. Is she thinking about Albertans or herself?

Hey teachers: Alberta is calling… you won’t have any workplace rights or most of your Constitutional Rights…
Oh, and your workplace conditions will be worst in Canada… and govt can force you to work in ‘em!
But come on down!

It will be interesting to see how overriding charter rights, forcing a rejected labour deal on workers, and threatening substantial fines will impact Alberta's plan to add and recruit 3,000 new teachers over the next 3 years.

There’s a misconception that the notwithstanding clause allows the government to put reasonable limits on freedoms.
Let’s be clear: the constitution, by default, allows reasonable limits. The notwithstanding clause, by definition, allows gov’t to impose *unreasonable* limits.
Wrote about this a month ago, in a different context. Relevant today as Albertans discuss legislation that would impose a contract and protect that decision from court challenges. coreyhogan.ca/p/notwithstand…

The Charter of Rights is foundational to 🇨🇦's democracy & national vision of fairness & due process. Decades of cases have confirmed its value to labour rights. Danielle Smith takes a big step toward authoritarianism, tossing it aside for fiscal & political convenience. #canlab

I’m a family doctor with many teachers for patients. This situation is a stressor far past what I would expect any of them to tolerate. Mental health/moral injury is almost assured. I feel well within my clinical capacity to sign them off on leaves of absence.

Where's the premier while MLAs rush through an all-night debate on stripping Albertans of their Charter rights?
An airport lounge, waiting for a flight to Saudi Arabia. She didn't even bother to show up for the vote.

"I think it's wrong to have the highest rate of funding for private schools in a province where we have the lowest rate of funding for public schools," the Calgary teacher said in an interview on Tuesday.
I agree.

"To accommodate these students, administration said the school’s library, music room and wellness centre will all be converted into classroom space."
This is why teachers voted to strike.
And why we should all support them.
