In Rajasthan also, Ms speak Rajasthani majorly. We've negligible Christian population & Parsis got extinct ig Many Ms in RJ have Hindu names (even on Gods) as well as surnames. Many still follow local culture & traditions. Many revere folk deities. Ms are also priests in temples.
Gujarati Muslims, Christians and Parsis speak fluent Gujarati because even during Muslim rule Gujaratis managed to retain significant cultural influence. It’s not the case with Deccan because the historically Deccan witnessed power tussle between local and Persian Muslims resulting in development of Dakkhani language. They also retained Farsi longer than even in North.

Prediction markets favored the losers in both Brazil & Serbia yesterday. That Eisenkot now clearly leads Bibi among betters is not necessarily bad news for Israeli libs, tho. I suspect markets have a right-wing bias today, so Israel's opposition might be heading for a landslide.

Why lula's victory was so important
Lula da Silva’s re-election has major geopolitical importance. Lula has been at loggerheads with the Trump administration. The latter was openly interfering in the election process by backing Flavio Bolsonaro. This attempt to put a pro-US government in position in Latin America’s biggest country was an integral part of Trump administration’s revival of the Monroe Doctrine. The Global South would have been weakened with Lula’s defeat. Brazil is the strongest voice of the Global South in Latin America. BRICS would have been weakened too if the US promoted right wing had won in Brazil. Although Flavio Bolsonaro’s father did not walk out of BRICS when he won but today with the Trump administration pressure may have put to do so. Bilaterally too, Lula’s victory is a plus for relations with India. The agenda of bilateral ties has become much more substantial with the exchange of visits by Modi and Lula.

Bolsonaro was not invited. The president of Brazil was invited....
When Bolsonaro was disgracefully invited as Chief Guest for our Republic Day Parade in 2020, several of us in Mumbai held a protest at Churchgate Station against an abandonment of “Indian values” by a government that turned a blind eye to his environmental destruction, his homophobia, his deep links to organised crime. “Aarey, Amazon, queer ladhai, Modi-Bolsonaro bhai bhai” was the slogan coined at that protest. Today, as the son of one far-right bigot bites the dust in Brazil, much to the relief of so many who were terrorised under his father’s last regime, there is hope reignited for change across the world. Congratulations, Comeback King @LulaOficial. Here’s hoping we can invite you to a Republic Day Parade in New Delhi soon.

🇷🇸 Vučić had a warning for Serbia after conceding election defeat: “You will see in six months, no one will be happy and joyful anymore.” He says his party will not block the incoming government, but predicts the new leadership will quickly impose sanctions on Russia and begin reversing Serbia’s current foreign policy. Vučić is telling the people celebrating his defeat: enjoy it while it lasts. Writer: Oliver

What happened in Serbia is concerning The govt had its flaws but it was nationalist and patriotic. These youth who are coming in, who influences them? Which NGOs are behind them? How pro EU are they? How much are they willing to dump serbian national interests..
Huge democratic breakthrough in Serbia tonight, followed by a Lula win in Brazil! Amazing day for democratic renewal. Bad day for illiberal populists.

Elections are increasingly becoming globalized. You wouldn't have democratic governors tweeting about Brazil in 2014 when Dilma won.

Its a trap They will put a bad candidate first and when he is rejected. In the name of unity they will go behind the Emirati one.

Pretty much. As of the past few weeks, debt markets have almost entirely shut off access to money for any company that doesn’t have substantial revenue independent of AI data centers. SpaceX closed $40B of debt for GPUs, but we’re investment grade and have Starlink & launch revenue. That means the 200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many.

Lula pulled a reverse Biden. He seemed old and washed, but a viral debate moment helped him pull off the win.
This is the moment that won Lula the runoff: Bolsonaro: "Why did 60% of the prisoners vote for you???" Lula: "I want 100%, including your father!!!"

I am not a big fan of Lula and have strongly criticised his opinion on Ukraine but this was about Brazil’s survival as a sovereign country…

And he’s being lauded in India. It is like bringing battered commanders from the Axis powers or the Vietnam war or Iraq / Afghanistan wars (his own experience) or the recent Iran conflict to enlighten Indians on the future of warfare.
At the NDTV World Summit it is noteworthy that Gen Petraeus talked of sitting in Operation Rooms in Ukraine and watching Russian soldiers being killed by Ukrainian drones. He evaded answering the question about what would be the US position if Pakistan committed another terrorist act against India and we responded. It was a difficult question and he chose to hedge , but he could have said that terrorism by any country is not acceptable for any reason .

A reminder that Jair Bolsonaro is serving a 27 year prison sentence for plotting a coup and planning to assassinate Lula
What a mess. Polling has supposedly closed in Brazil - and no word from Brazil's electoral authorities about whether voting hours will be extended because of apparent sabotage of public transport in at least 10 states

If Flávio Bolsonaro loses this, he’ll largely have himself to blame. His first-round win bred overconfidence: allies began jockeying for ministries in public, and his campaign seemed to take centrist voters for granted.

BREAKING: Aleksandar Vučić conceded defeat in Serbia’s snap parliamentary election, saying the student-backed Student List had won. “Based on a stratified sample, it is clear that we have lost this election. The student blockade list won,” Vučić said. The result ends more than a decade of dominance by Vučić’s Serbian Progressive Party.
