The quoted post is a massive lie. It is so massive that it is a proportional to Joseph Welch moment confronting Joseph McCarthy with “Have you left sense of decency sir?” about Reds in US Army. All the Somali cadets who went to #Eritrea for training had been accounted for it. I interviewed at least a dozen of them who managed to returned home. HSM is there seeking help from Abiy in Biadio, a mess he alone created out of political greed. The problem it is unlikely HSM will get any help from a besieged Abiy. So let’s have some decency and stop repeating a lie which has been dispelled.
During the 2020-2022 Tigray war Somali forces were deployed alongside Eritrean troops. They were merciless. I hope this isn’t repeated

Martin Plaut has long been a vocal critic of Eritrea, yet even he cannot dismiss the seriousness of Abiy Ahmed’s rhetoric. Ethiopia’s leadership continues to make threats concerning Eritrea’s sovereignty and openly talks of war over Red Sea access. Rhetoric alone is not proof of military action, but repeated threats must be taken seriously and assessed against verifiable actions. Eritrea’s sovereignty is not negotiable. Choosing peace is not a sign of fear or weakness; it is a sign of strength, wisdom, and responsibility. Ethiopia’s ambitions do not give it the right to threaten war. @StateDept @WhiteHouse @EUSR_Weber @antonioguterres @BBCWorld @CNN @AJEnglish @dwnews @Chinamission2un @franceonu @RussiaUN @UKUN_NewYork @USUN @BahrainMsnNY @ColombiaONU @RDCongoONU @Denmark_UN @GRUN_NY @LatviaUN_NY @LibMissionUN @PakistanUN_NY @panamaonuny @SomaliaatUN

Why do so many foreign countries, including the US and the UAE feel free to drop bombs in #Somalia at will?
"The United Arab Emirates (#UAE) conducted its first drone strike in northern #Somalia in almost a year, security officials told AFP on Wednesday, targeting Al-Shabaab insurgents. The group has maintained a base in the Al-Madow mountains of the northern Puntland region for years, though its numbers are far smaller there than in south-central Somalia." 24newshd.tv/21-Oct-2026/uae-…

I keep trying to share posts like this one from the poster's page, including this excellent talk by @danielmkovalik at CAIR, but it's not working. Can anyone tell me what might be off with my X settings? (And give Dan a listen.) youtu.be/qdJPO699xvw?si=k1U6… via @YouTube

"US sidelines TPLF as it seeks to mediate Ethiopia–Eritrea dispute" . . . This is behind a paywall, but I read it and I think it's probably accurate. I'm not passing judgment, good, bad, whatever. I just think it's probably accurate. theeastafrican.co.ke/tea/new…

This says that Ethiopia is now eligible to purchase US weapons. I'd rather it said that the US restoring Ethiopia's AGOA privileges to encourage Ethiopian industry.

The Globe and Mail's story about the beheading in Uganda of exiled former army sergeant Robert Kabera. As timing goes, this couldn't have been worse publicity for Rwanda, which was only just celebrating hosting #F1 in coming years. theglobeandmail.com/sports/a…

AFRICAN HUNGER IS MAN-MADE Amanda Parris sat down with Nana Odongo for a sharp, necessary conversation about Black food sovereignty. At its core was a simple but uncomfortable truth: hunger in Africa is not natural; it is engineered. Africa holds roughly 60% of the world’s uncultivated arable land, according to the UN; yet the continent remains a net food importer, spending tens of billions of dollars each year importing food it could grow itself. Nana explains why: African agriculture is still structured around export, not nourishment. Land, labour, and water go to cut flowers, tea, coffee, cocoa, and fresh produce for Europe and global markets, while local populations are left with scraps, lower-grade products, or higher prices. Kenya exports premium tea and flowers while domestic food insecurity persists. Ghana is one of the world’s largest cocoa producers, yet processes less than a fraction of its cocoa into chocolate. Most of the value is added in Europe, where countries like Switzerland dominate global chocolate profits without growing a single cocoa bean. Analysts don’t view this as an accident; it is neocolonialism in practice. Political independence did not come with economic or food sovereignty. The colonial logic remains intact; Africa produces, others consume and profit. As Nana puts it, you cannot talk about independence without first talking about the right to feed yourself. Food security is power. Data shows that until African states prioritise feeding their own people over global markets, the myth of scarcity will continue to mask a system built on extraction, dependency, and unequal exchange.

Jeffrey Sachs delivers a stark warning against the drive toward war with Russia and China. Europe’s political leadership is sacrificing peace, sovereignty, and economic development to preserve a collapsing geopolitical order. From Ukraine to Iran, the refusal to challenge military escalation threatens humanity with catastrophe. The alternative is diplomacy among sovereign nations, grounded in mutual security and economic cooperation. “Stop trying to force Russia into a ‘humiliating defeat.’ Above all, avoid that because that is a death wish. You want some stupid American general saying, ‘We could take Kaliningrad, no problem.’ And then when Putin says, ‘We’ll use all means to defend it.’ Then having all these stupid pundits saying, ‘Oh, he’s just bluffing.’ I’m so sick of these pundits. Is the idea really humiliation? So, what is this arming to go to war with Russia? They have 1,600 actively deployed nuclear weapons. Are you kidding? What are you thinking? Europe is not standing up for Ukraine. Europe is killing Ukraine. This is not about a ceasefire. This is about a European politician standing up and saying, ‘Mr. Putin, NATO will not enlarge to Ukraine or to Georgia. Now, let’s stop the war.’ Sit down and talk. We are nearly at war with China. Why? Because China has grown up again. In fact, they have an unbelievable temerity to have a larger economy than the United States. How dare they threaten American hegemony? This is insane. How many wars do we need in this world? And by the way, I didn’t hear Europe speak a murmur about America’s attack on Iran. That is a brazen, murderous violation of every single international standard we have. The day of the attack, the Security Council met that afternoon. And I was asked to testify. And I sat there in growing absolute shock. The Bahraini ambassador was the first to open the meeting and said, ‘We are meeting here today to condemn the unprovoked attack by Iran on Bahrain.’ Okay, I thought, ‘That’s a little weird. Unprovoked?’ But it went on the whole session this way. The French ambassador, the British ambassador, the Greek ambassador, nobody in Europe said the United States should not have started a war against Iran. My view is there is no reason for a war with Russia. There is no reason for a war with China. There’s no reason for a genocide in Gaza. For God’s sake, honestly, I love Europe, but not this political leadership right now. I don’t understand it.” Humanity cannot survive a geopolitical order built on imperial hegemony and permanent war. The alternative is dialogue among sovereign nations, mutual security, and cooperation for peace and economic development rather than nuclear catastrophe.

Worth reading the long entry on Robert Kabera in this Human Rights Watch report detailing the extraterritorial dangers faced by Rwandan dissidents. Three years later, Kabera is found beheaded in Uganda. #F1: this is Rwanda's trademark, not motor racing. hrw.org/report/2023/10/10/jo…
