Why should we not criticise? Why should we wait?
Dr Ambedkar warned against expecting the oppressed to remain silent for fear of losing the sympathy of their allies. He insisted that solidarity requires wholehearted support for the struggle against injustice. It’s a two-way street.
Solidarity for larger political demands cannot come at the cost of silencing criticism of caste erasure. It must be based on mutually accepted terms: equality and accountability.
The oppressed cannot be expected to surrender their right to question injustice or erasure of their discourse merely to preserve political alliances.

It was E.M.S. Namboodiripad, a Namboodiri Brahmin and prominent Left leader from Kerala, who opposed Babasaheb Ambedkar’s demand for separate electorates. And it was Neha Bora’s CPI(ML) that opposed OBC reservations.
History is more complex than neatly ticking all the politically correct boxes of caste, class and gender.
