We've worked on this response to the Report of the Council of Skills Advisers from @UKLabour
Hopefully it gives you some idea of where we stand and what we hope to change.

This is great from @bphillipsonMP – so reassuring to hear her acknowledge that poor behaviour is often a reason for teachers leaving the profession, and that schools need backing from parents to create orderly classrooms.
Will disruptive pupils still face permanent exclusion under the new Govt?
Here's Education Secretary @bphillipsonMP

A very good and reassuring appointment. Pleased to see someone who knows the value of a knowledge-rich curriculum heading the review.
Exclusive: @BeckyFrancis7 has been appointed to lead Labour's curriculum and assessment review

The government will have to successfully square this aspiration with its manifesto commitment to build on knowledge rich syllabuses.
Getting this wrong is the route to the policy failure seen elsewhere.
Today’s the day. 🗳️
We will still be here after the election to see how manifesto words become policy in action.

53% of secondary teachers in the most disadvantaged schools said that poor behaviour entirely stopped learning at least once in the last lesson they taught, compared to 37% who reported the same in the most affluent state schools.

Interesting results from the @TeacherTapp general election manifesto education policy rankings! Love how this was done.
It would be great if @bphillipsonMP could have a good look at this to see what the priorities are for teachers and how it aligns with Labour’s priorities.

There are schools where behaviour is so bad that children are unsafe, don’t learn, and scores leave with no quals. You won’t hear about these schools in the press. Instead, you’ll find journalists bashing schools with high expectations. It’s lazy, unfair, and deeply unhelpful.
Investigation: Scores of parents have spoken out about what they say are ‘cult like’ rules and cultures at a group of Liverpool schools
We’ve also spoken to a whistleblowing teacher who has slammed the ‘chaotic’ academy trust

Love to see @TeacherTapp giving teachers a voice in the policy debate. Do make sure to log in and have your opinion count.
This weekend on @teachertapp we’re polling to discover the most popular education policies from the manifestos.
We need to know what those working in education and in classrooms think about these changes so we can amplify your voices.

Good work @CEITeaching on talking to Labour about maintaining a necessary focus on the role curriculum and ideas around knowledge have when it comes to social justice.
Replying to @bphillipsonMP
We’ll launch a full expert-led review of the curriculum and how it’s assessed.
We will build on the rich foundation of knowledge, and empower every child to shape the world of tomorrow.
So the next generation are ready for life, work, and the future.

Here’s a thread from Bridget Phillipson summarising the education commitments in the Labour manifesto.
Education is the single greatest way we build the better future our children deserve.
And the ambition our young people have must be matched from government.
Today Labour sets out how we will rise to that challenge: a thread 🧵
labour.org.uk/change/
The Labour manifesto is out and there’s a fair bit to digest.
🌹 More teacher recruitment
🌹 Support staff negotiating body
🌹 Focus on early years maths
🌹 Early language interventions
🌹 Regional improvement teams
🌹 Ofsted report cards
🌹 Community-wide approach to SEND
🌹 Breakfast clubs in all primaries
🌹 Specialist mental health professionals in all schools
🌹 More support for creative and vocational subjects
🌹 Improved access to sport, music and art
🌹 3000 new nurseries
This is the closest we have to Labour’s schools policy until the manifesto launch.
No mention of ending the SEND funding crisis nor of supporting schools to improve behaviour.
Still no clarity on what the vague wording on curriculum means.
🤷
This election is a choice — above all for teachers.
The Tories will guarantee tax breaks for private schools.
Labour will deliver more teachers, more training, and more support for new heads.

The fact is, we do not know what work children will be doing in the future.
Our present is, in some ways, vastly different to the past and, in other ways, substantially similar.
How can we predict what skills will be needed?
Replying to @SchoolsWeek
Instead, he said Labour will 'prepare children for the work they are going to do' and ensure they are 'taught the skills they will need'
We need to 'concentrate on creativity, confidence and resilience'
