This is great from @bphillipsonMP – so reassuring to hear her acknowledge that poor behaviour is often a reason for teachers leaving the profession, and that schools need backing from parents to create orderly classrooms.
Will disruptive pupils still face permanent exclusion under the new Govt? Here's Education Secretary @bphillipsonMP #KayBurley FC

The government will have to successfully square this aspiration with its manifesto commitment to build on knowledge rich syllabuses. Getting this wrong is the route to the policy failure seen elsewhere.

53% of secondary teachers in the most disadvantaged schools said that poor behaviour entirely stopped learning at least once in the last lesson they taught, compared to 37% who reported the same in the most affluent state schools.

Interesting results from the @TeacherTapp general election manifesto education policy rankings! Love how this was done. It would be great if @bphillipsonMP could have a good look at this to see what the priorities are for teachers and how it aligns with Labour’s priorities.

There are schools where behaviour is so bad that children are unsafe, don’t learn, and scores leave with no quals. You won’t hear about these schools in the press. Instead, you’ll find journalists bashing schools with high expectations. It’s lazy, unfair, and deeply unhelpful.
Investigation: Scores of parents have spoken out about what they say are ‘cult like’ rules and cultures at a group of Liverpool schools We’ve also spoken to a whistleblowing teacher who has slammed the ‘chaotic’ academy trust Full story 👇 liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liv…

This weekend on @teachertapp we’re polling to discover the most popular education policies from the manifestos. We need to know what those working in education and in classrooms think about these changes so we can amplify your voices. Take part here: onelink.to/teachertapp

Good work @CEITeaching on talking to Labour about maintaining a necessary focus on the role curriculum and ideas around knowledge have when it comes to social justice.
Replying to @bphillipsonMP
We’ll launch a full expert-led review of the curriculum and how it’s assessed. We will build on the rich foundation of knowledge, and empower every child to shape the world of tomorrow. So the next generation are ready for life, work, and the future. bbc.co.uk/news/education-661…

We must be ready to defend a knowledge-rich approach to curriculum, particularly those on the left who might traditionally jump behind labour policy. A skills-based curriculum is not the right course, and risks setting us back a long way.
After years of stagnation under the Tories, Labour will deliver a broader, richer, future-facing curriculum. Our Review will ensure young people leave education ready for work, ready for life. Brilliant to see the work of @CorbridgeMiddle in action.

@bphillipsonMP please start in the most logical place - teacher retention. Ask all teachers who are leaving the profession this year why it is no longer a rewarding career and then deal with the issues they raise. Without teachers, no curriculum works.

Labour voter here - teacher recruitment and retention, school estates, services around schools (ie CAMHS) are much higher on the wish list. Curriculum change previously has led to high workload - ie not helping retention.

Hello! I'm a teacher and labour member. There is work to do on curriculum but be careful and look carefully at what has happened in systems where well meaning planners have made curriculum about generic competencies rather than specific things that can be taught..

This is why we shouldnt end inspection. Better to lower the stakes & give parents nuanced but clear info, whilst equipping decision makers with the external info needed to make an informed decision about routes to improvement, in discussion with the school ippr.org/research/publicatio…
Surely you have to look at why OFSTED was introduced & what was wrong with the previous system of inspections. Schools have to be accountable & measurable. OFSTED may require review, but let's not lose sight of, or drop, its aims & objectives without a viable alternative.

Labour wants an end to stories like this. We will change the law to save parents money & impose a limit of three branded items in total. Uniform should make children smarter, not poorer.
Holderness Academy has defended placing a child in isolation for wearing the supermarket version, insisting parents were made aware of the policy in June.

After a long day at school, I've finally read Labour's policy doc. It's high risk and potentially high reward, if they make good on their promise to implement it in partnership with teachers.  Thread time! 1/8 labour.org.uk/wp-content/upl…

Huge prizes and pitfalls here. Starmer needs to consult with the sector to get the balance right. Prizes: - oracy - poverty reduction - nailing vocational ed Pitfalls: - return of awful 'skills' pedagogy - massive change when schools are struggling
Keir Starmer to say class ceiling must shatter to let children get ahead dlvr.it/SrlNDM

How many times does this need to be said? The only changes to curriculum at present should be to trim it. Any other change is evidence-free, and serves only to drive egos and appease the chattering classes and education academics. This speech is not going to go down well.

Good summary of Labour's education policy so far. Lots in here to like and encourage - plenty on the basics (hungry kids, recruitment) and wisely steers clear of wading into curriculum debates beyond a few no brainers.
This is what’s on the Labour 🌹 education policy tracker at the moment. What do you make of it? Is it enough? Any omissions or things you’d do away with?

We would encourage as many teachers as possible to respond to their call for evidence - whether that be personal experience, research or both - which you think would benefit the enquiry. schoolsappg.org.uk/news/inqu…
