These past two years we've all been having a nightmare about our hands. It started when we held up our hands for words which sounded like "choice" and "autonomy" and "dignity". We gave dying a big thumbs down. We gave killing a big thumbs up. We decided that suffering could be ended by ending the sufferers. We decided that healthcare should try its hand at execution. That what palliative care really needed was poison. Some people who have always had it their own way demanded one last triumphant show that all decisions rested in their hands. Up to and including their own oblivion. But many, many more people, who had never been centre stage, found themselves, when they were at their weakest, pushed off the edge by hands in latex gloves. And as they fell, all they heard from above were those hollow noises. Words which sounded like "choice", "autonomy" and "dignity", but carried none of their true meaning. And the hands which pushed them, were the same hands which, before the nightmare came, had been holding onto theirs. Warm hands, which had once restored health, and comforted and cared. Turned cold by the nightmare. Into the hands of killers. Thank you for saving my hands. Thank you for saving my colleagues' hands. Thank you for saving my patients' lives. Thank you for waking us up from the nightmare.

This alone ought to kill the assisted suicide bill. Please write to your MPs ahead of the second reading vote Friday.

Still waiting for any major health or disability organisation to come out in favour of the "Assisted Dying" bill.
25 organisations and experts who have criticised the assisted dying bill: 1. Royal College of Physicians. “Vulnerable patients...are not adequately protected by the current bill.” “NHS workforce does not currently have the resource required to meet these additional demands.”

100% terrified that this will happen to my son. 100% sure that this will happen to other people if he escapes.
Years ago I did a benefit appeal for a client with Downs Syndrome. He was so suggestible he agreed with the benefits assessor that he could successfully navigate across town. I got the same positive answer when I asked if he could fly an aeroplane

This government are actively PUSHING both these policies but put neither in their manifesto. It’s a democratic outrage.
Introducing assisted suicide via the NHS & largely scrapping trial by jury are two seismic changes to our way of life which the Labour Party didn’t think it needed to bother giving the electorate any prior warning of before taking power.

Our newest paper is on farming! Liver cancer is a big problem in Vietnam, partly due to agrochemicals. Madecassic acid might be the basis for a medicine for it, and it can be extracted from Centella plants - but can you grow them without the agrochemicals? sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Why should assisted suicide be given guaranteed tax payer funding (with no cap on profits for private companies who drain the NHS)… but hospices struggle to stay open on donations?! I know where I want my taxes to go. Give people the choice of good palliative care!
So, while waits to see a consultant or get treatment can take months - on day 2 of contacting the Assisted Dying Help Service you’ll be assigned a Personal Navigator to assist you through the process. This will operate ‘with no exceptions’ for weekend days or bank holidays.’

Assisted suicide puts my son at risk of untimely death. It does the same for anyone vulnerable that you know.
😭A TRAGEDY Every person with Down's syndrome would be eligible for assisted suicide under this Bill, according to Ken Ross, Founding Officer at the National Down Syndrome Policy Group. This Bill is a national tragedy in the making.

So moving that you're withdrawing your bill to promote suicide for my patients?
So moving to visit the ‘Speak Their Name’ exhibition in Parliament. The beautiful quilts are created by families & friends in loving memory of someone they’ve lost to suicide. A powerful reminder of the need for continued work on suicide prevention: speaktheirname.org/home/

Hospice crisis deepens. Zero comment anywhere from Falconer or Leadbeater. Hospice UK CEO tells the BBC: “What would it say about us as a country if someone decided to opt for an assisted death because they were worried that they wouldn't be able to get the care they needed?”

"How dare the opposition to my Assisted Falling with a Noose Bill describe it as Hanging! A compassionate drop with an empathetic stop is completely different to Hanging. Trust us because we are kind and decent and never use scary words."
EXCL: Theresa May accused of being ‘deeply insensitive’ after referring to assisted dying as ‘suicide’ In a letter to the former PM, 13 assisted dying campaigners have denounced her language, saying they “listened with dismay” independent.co.uk/news/uk/po…
