He is 42 years old 🇺🇸 His younger brother is named Osama. On 9/11 his stepmother called to say she was picking the brother up from school. Abdul stayed at school "just in case" anyone needed defending. After 9/11, at age 16, he was a target on the football field, got into a fight after hearing racist comments, and was told by his coach "You're going to be Abdul El-Sayed for the rest of your life. You can use that as an excuse or as motivation" His Egyptian grandmother (Teta Soad), who was illiterate and raised kids in a one-bedroom apartment above a fish market, is the person he still asks himself about daily "Would Teta be proud? He was born on Halloween Captained his high school football, wrestling, and lacrosse teams. He has said he has only seen his father cry twice in his life. One of those times was when his father had to tell him that Teta had died. At age 30, he became the youngest health director of a major U.S city when he was appointed to rebuild Detroit’s health department. Dr. Abdul El-Sayed met his wife Sarah through the Muslim Students' Association at the University of Michigan and proposed while she was still a freshman. . . . . Abdul El-Sayed is the first Muslim Senator in US history. It's an huge win for the Muslim community, the Democrats and the state of Michigan whom majority voted him in. He has emerged as a Senator because a part of the people in the state of Michigan believe in his competence in governing affairs, as he has proven himself in past offices. . . . In the midst of all the uproar going on, let's look forward to how this win will bring about the best interest of the people of Michigan and the united states in general, as this is the most paramount. . . .
