On my first trip to Tokyo I was intrigued to discover people randomly wearing masks. When I asked why, they explained that many will cover their face when ill to protect others from catching germs.
It was a simple, easy, thing to do. No fuss. Just functional care for everyone else in society.
The past few days I've seen and heard people who are terribly ill, coughing their guys out, just carrying on as normal, no mask.
And I wonder, what would it take for us as a society to also adopt the same consideration for others wellbeing as I saw on that first visit to Japan. If they can do it, why can't we?
