Brazil soybean weather: All three major forecast models indicate below-normal rainfall in Mato Grosso over the next two weeks.
Today's 00z ECMWF forecast has shifted drier for October 16–22, bringing it closer to the GEFS and AIFS forecasts.
Mato Grosso precipitation forecasts (% of normal):
Week 1 (October 16–22)
• ECMWF: 62%
• GEFS: 35%
• AIFS: 40%
Week 2 (October 23–29)
• ECMWF: 73%
• GEFS: 46%
• AIFS: 67%
The ECMWF reduced its Week 1 Mato Grosso precipitation forecast by 13% of normal compared with yesterday's 00z run.
All three models now consistently forecast below-normal rainfall across Mato Grosso during both weeks, although the GEFS remains the driest.
With Brazil's 2026/27 soybean planting underway, rainfall amounts and distribution across Mato Grosso will be important to monitor for soil moisture, planting progress, and crop establishment.

WIDESPREAD FREEZE EXPECTED FRIDAY MORNING!
A strong cold front will bring the first widespread freeze of the season into Iowa and Kansas Friday morning. Temperatures will quickly drop tomorrow night as skies clear and winds calm, allowing for ideal conditions for temperatures to fall below freezing. Freeze probabilities are 60–90% across the pink-shaded area, with lower chances farther northwest and southeast. The growing season is expected to come to an end in many areas along and north of I-80 as the first hard push of cold air settles in!

Some areas that will get there first frost will likely get their first freeze as well. A strong cold front will sweep through Thursday and Friday morning pushing temperatures below average. Record cold won't happen, but it will be the first frosts and freezes as far south as the I-70 corridor. There'll be another chance for a frost Sunday morning as well.

IRAN SUSPENDED TRADING IN ISFAHAN, BANDAR ABBAS, TEHRAN, TABRIZ, SHIRAZ AND LAVAN REFINERS THROUGH OCT. 14 OVER LATE DISCLOSURE OF MATERIAL INFORMATION.
THE SIX HALTS WERE ANNOUNCED WITHIN 16 MINUTES, SUGGESTING A BROADER REFINING-SECTOR ISSUE.
IRAN’S OIL EXPORTS HAVE FALLEN TO ABOUT 500,000 B/D IN JULY-AUGUST FROM 2.6 MILLION B/D IN JANUARY, INCREASING PRESSURE ON THE DOMESTIC REFINING SECTOR.
