At a bar this weekend, I spoke with a random person in their young 30s. She mentioned that she and her sister-in-law have political disagreements. I asked her which subject in particular. She said: Israel-Palestine. So, I asked which side she stands on. She said she was opposed to Israel genociding Palestinians. Trying not to give away my position, I asked: What makes you say that? She said it was Israel killing 200,000 Palestinian children. I told her that was interesting because Hamas's death toll, which includes fighters, sits at around 70,000. At that point, she made it clear that she wasn't interested in changing her opinion. We have a propaganda and misinformation problem. It seems that many people have developed strong opinions based on lies. But perhaps correct information could help dispel the lies. Though, I suspect the truth doesn't matter as much as the narrative.

The UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee, which handles decolonization, passed a Russian-sponsored resolution on October 15 that seeks to shield expansionist countries from coercive measures in the name of opposing colonialism. @DavidSamuelMay & @BenCohenOpinion provide the latest analysis: bit.ly/4dRuXSV

Tapping into the anti-Israel zayitgeist
I’ve been detained by the IDF, along with a group of rabbis & volunteers. We were simply harvesting olives in a grove near Nehalim in the West Bank. The occupation is a crime under international law. Harvesting olives isn’t a crime under any law I know.

Anti-Israel criminals vandalized a bank and scrawled graffiti attacking an Israeli company. The NYC City Council speaker condemned the possibly antisemitic attack. Several accounts erroneously claimed that the council speaker was suggesting that attacks on banks are antisemitic as opposed to the graffiti and the targeting of a bank for its Israeli accounts. The deliberate misreading presents an example of the supposed spread of false accusations of antisemitism. Promoting the narrative of false claims of antisemitism trivializes the fight against antisemitism and endangers Jews.
The vandalism and destruction at the Capital One branch on 86th Street is deeply disturbing and unacceptable. I have been in contact with the NYPD regarding this incident and have urged an immediate investigation, including whether this is a potential antisemitic hate crime. There is no place for hate, intimidation or violence in New York City.

If I were her, I'd do a better job hiding that Code Pink is a Chinese plant.
Across China, public water dispensers offer free hot and cold water, making it easier to stay hydrated without relying on single-use plastic bottles. A simple service with a big impact on people and the planet. Because access to clean drinking water should be a human right, not a privilege. 干杯! Cheers!

I suppose if you can change the meaning of words like "genocide," why not also change the meaning of words like "nuclear weapons."
Entire neighbourhoods in Gaza evaporated by Israeli nuclear weapons.. No one believes this..
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
This video does not depict a nuclear explosion or the use of nuclear weapons. The footage shows sequential detonations producing dust and smoke plumes consistent with conventional high explosives (such as those used in building or tunnel demolitions). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_w…

During Nobel Peace Prize winner Navi Pillay's tenure as United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights from 2008 to 2014, the Human Rights Council passed 39 resolutions slamming Israel. By comparison, North Korea was the target of six resolutions, and Iran was the target of just four. @BenCohenOpinion & @DavidSamuelMay write in @NRO: bit.ly/4ymnQJs

Nothing more UN than the Russians getting a resolution passed condemning colonization as it tries to absorb Ukraine. This sounds like a repeat of the 60s and 70s.
UN General Assembly cttee on decolonization approves Russian-led text on addressing contemporary forms of colonialization [Norway: By invading Ukraine, Russia is violating the UN Charter & the principle of nonintervention in the most fundamental way] docs.un.org/en/A/C.4/81/L.5

Dear Mr. Historian, it is illegal to finance proscribed organisations. Rooney pledged to give money from her book sales to a proscribed organisation. As a result, her books cannot be sold in the UK any longer. I know that is difficult to understand for someone who makes a living researching and writing history.

Watch Al Jazeera do a whole report on the “Israeli colonisation” of Cyprus without mentioning once that Turkish Muslim armies militarily occupy the entire north of the island. Fucking clowns.
Israeli investors are building gated communities and luxury resorts on the island of Cyprus. Some Cypriots fear the changing landscape could push locals out and widen the island’s existing divisions.

I have a received a letter from @cogatonline on the suspension of private-sector goods coordination into Gaza as a result of reports of threats and coercion by Hamas. As I have warned repeatedly, such practices are unacceptable and must end immediately. The intimidation of merchants and interference in the supply chain only deepen the suffering of Gaza's civilians. These developments demonstrate why the rapid deployment of the @NCAG, supported by the International Stabilization Force (ISF), is urgently needed. Civilian supplies, humanitarian assistance and commercial activity must be protected from coercion, exploitation and interference. All parties should work with the @BoardOfPeace and move without delay to implement the Comprehensive Plan endorsed by #UNSC Resolution 2803, including the arrangements required for NCAG and ISF operations in Gaza. This includes the decommissioning of weapons, the transition to legitimate transitional governance and the protection of humanitarian and commercial supply chains.

The UN accused Israel of genocide, and one of the 3 commissioners behind that accusation just admitted, in front of a live audience, that they never independently verified one of the most explosive statistics in their own report. Chris Sidoti insisted that his commission conducts independent investigations and doesn't simply rely on media reports. Except paragraph 21 of their official genocide report claims that 83% of those killed in Gaza were civilians. The footnote cites The Guardian. When asked whether the commission had actually verified that figure, Sidoti admitted: “No, we didn't… we literally do not know.” Now watch how this works. The Guardian publishes a statistic. The UN cites The Guardian. TIME and other media orgs then repeat the statistic while reporting on the UN's genocide findings, giving readers the impression that they're looking at an independently established fact. The media quotes the UN, the UN quotes the media, and somewhere along the way a newspaper's claim gets transformed into an authoritative finding of international investigators. This is how information gets laundered. Each new citation adds another layer of credibility without necessarily adding a single piece of independent evidence. But the commissioner himself admits they never verified the number. We're talking about an official UN report accusing the Jewish state of the gravest crime in international law, circulated around the world as authoritative evidence, while one of its own authors acknowledges that they literally do not know whether a central statistic they published is accurate. How many other claims in that report have been through the same process?

Note that, until October 7, 2023, there wasn't much debate about the definition of "genocide." Not when it came to Russia's war against Ukraine. (Putin has said, "I consider the Russian and Ukrainian peoples to be one people.") Not when it came to China's war against the Uyghurs, which has left upwards of 2 million Muslims in concentration camps. Not when it came to the U.S. wars in Iraq or Afghanistan. Not when it came to the Armenians and Azeris battling each other (with both sides accusing the other of ethnic cleansing). And on and on. But now that the Jews are defending themselves against the barbarians who have made it their life's mission to kill as many Jews as possible, Qatari-media hacks like Hasan have moved the proverbial goal posts. It's not a bad tactical move: He knows he can count on the latent (or not so latent) antisemitism of the Europeans and younger Americans, who have been conditioned to regurgitate other people's ready-made opinions. But, of course, it's repugnant and ignorant and utterly hateful in every other respect.
Fascinating how Gaza has exposed the intellectual emptiness and ignorance and dishonesty of our ‘public intellectuals.’ Historian Simon Schama seems blissfully unaware that the definition of genocide doesn’t revolve around percentages killed and, even if it did, far fewer proportions of the Uyghur and Rohingya populations have been killed than in Gaza and yet the US government classifies both of those cases as genocides.

A shame that virtue signaling didn't go the way Canada planned.
Canada, alongside Australia, France and the United Kingdom, expresses deep regret over the postponement of Palestinian elections until September 2027. Nearly two decades have passed since the last Palestinian Legislative Council elections, leaving an entire generation without the opportunity to elect its representatives. We call on the Palestinian Authority to reconsider this decision and to take the necessary steps to hold legislative and presidential elections, without further delay.
