🏫 America’s primary and secondary schools have become targets of foreign influence campaigns.
Over $10M in QFI grants have reached nearly two dozen school districts, mainly supporting Arabic language and culture instruction.

If Washington fails to address Hezbollah's residual financial infrastructure now, Syria's economic reopening could let the group rebuild the networks it needs to regenerate. @AhmadA_Sharawi:

Making sanctions "work" better against the Islamic Republic, a 101 by the Max Pressure guru himself, @miadmaleki of @FDD in @WSJopinion.
This approach employs arm-twisting then hand-holding against ship owners and operators to foster compliance and reward behavior change.
My @FDD colleague @miadmaleki in @WSJopinion with another smart and actionable idea: “In eight years at the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, I learned that offering owners an exit can help enforce sanctions. We delisted ships and companies on a case-by-case basis when they changed hands. But we didn’t have a blockade that made the fleet’s Iranian business worthless. That lever exists now.” wsj.com/opinion/a-buyout-for…

Excellent discussion with @DenysSienik And @DougKlain of how to best support Ukraine as it fights the Axis of Authoritarians. Let’s start with giving Ukraine access to Starshield over both Ukraine and Russia - so Ukraine can strike archers before they shoot their arrows
Today I moderated a @UkraineCaucus staff briefing with @DenysSienik & @MarkCMontgomery on the urgent need to ensure Ukraine has full access to Starlink & Starshield, including for defensive strikes on missile launchers in Russia. Thanks to our briefers for a timely discussion.
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the International Atomic Energy Agency are facing a grave budgetary shortfall as a result of U.S. funding conditions.

Qatar says it doesn’t support the Muslim Brotherhood. The Muslim Brotherhood says otherwise.
On the FDD Morning Brief @EFischberger joins @JSchanzer to unpack how Doha backs the Brotherhood’s religious authority — the same body issuing fatwas calling for jihad against Israel and the West.

Professional enablers of sanctions evasion beware. The U.S. government is warning that the lawyers and law firms setting up shell companies, facilitating opacity re: America's adversaries, etc. are not off limits.
And to be honest, sanctioning a non-Iranian law firm for operating in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors of the Iranian economy is kinda sick.
Today, as part of Operation Economic Outcast, Treasury sanctioned Panama- and Greece-based law firm Karnakis and Karnakis, shipping agents, and vessels which have supported illicit Iranian shipping activity, indirectly aiding Tehran’s ability to generate revenue to fund its military, weapons, and nuclear programs. Throughout Operation Economic Outcast, Treasury has continued to coordinate with counterparts in Europe and around the world to sever the Iranian regime’s remaining economic lifelines.
