Mr. @SecRubio, I write this as an educator at one of your Ivy League schools, the University of Pennsylvania, and as someone who has spent years teaching Persian history and culture and their intersections with Greek and Western history and culture. Your dangerously Eurocentric account of Perso-Greek history is not only distorted and misleading; it also ignores the most basic facts about centuries of cultural exchange between civilizations you frame as fundamentally opposed. Greek civilization did not develop in isolation from its eastern neighbors, nor did what we now call Western civilization emerge independently of the intellectual and cultural worlds to its east. The Persians and Greeks were not simply enemies locked in an eternal civilizational struggle. They were also neighbors whose worlds intersected through diplomacy, trade, art, religion, literature, philosophy, science, and political thought. The Achaemenid Empire itself was a vast, multicultural world connecting the Mediterranean to Central Asia. Greek thinkers lived and traveled in the wider Persian world, while Greek knowledge, art, and political ideas circulated across the eastern Mediterranean and beyond. These encounters were complex, reciprocal, and often shaped by both conflict and cooperation. Yes, there were imperial wars between Persians and Greeks, just as there were wars between other ancient empires. But reducing their history to military invasions while erasing centuries of cultural contact and exchange is not historical analysis. It is ideological mythmaking. Had you engaged seriously with the histories of Persian and Greek philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, mythology, art, and literature, you might have recognized how inadequate and dangerous it is to reproduce the crude civilizational binaries popularized by the notoriously racist movie 300. Invoking this caricature of ancient history to mobilize support for contemporary military aggression is not an innocent historical error. It is a way of manufacturing an enemy by presenting an entire civilization as an existential threat. History shows us where such rhetoric can lead. The Nazis exploited myths of national humiliation and betrayal after the First World War, scapegoating Jews to legitimize exclusion, persecution, and ultimately genocide. The historical circumstances are different, but the broader warning remains: the deliberate construction of civilizational enemies can help normalize dehumanization and mass violence. When a senior US official selectively weaponizes a complex history he demonstrably misrepresents, he does more than spread misinformation. He helps advance a worldview in which war between civilizations appears inevitable and aggression becomes defensible. That is how dangerous political narratives are built, and how human catastrophes are made easier to justify. Your speech is historically uninformed, aggressively Eurocentric, and deeply troubling. At a moment when the consequences of military escalation are measured in human lives, we need historical literacy and intellectual responsibility, not racist caricatures dressed up as civilizational history.
America was formed by a civilization that has persisted for thousands of years and which must persist for thousands more. It was the Civilization of Athens and Rome that transformed an infant seaboard republic into a continental empire.

How about they play in crutches or with one arm tied behind their back, or in wheelchairs in recognition of all the children who suffered amputation or loss of limbs not to mind their lives from the genocidal actions of the country they are playing in a sporting fixture.
David Courell says players will wear black armbands in recognition of 'all lives lost in the conflict'.

Must try to find something to be happy about in every day. I have to admit that sometimes it's hard in such a fucked up world where true leadership, diplomacy, humanity and honesty are absent. Is this the best our generation can offer our children. If it is, we are truly cooked.

I don’t know who still needs to hear this, but killing people every, single, day is NOT a ceasefire.

Hey, @ticketmaster, since you offered refunds to all the crybabies who were “traumatized” by Macklemore saying “free Palestine“, are you also offering refunds for people who don’t want to go to a concert where an artist was kicked off a tour for speaking their mind? Because it’s only fair. But my guess is that you’re not gonna do that, huh?

This is grotesque. Absolutely grotesque. There is no more impartial an organisation than @MSF. From Afghanistan to Sierra Leone, they never once failed to impress with their neutrality, impartiality and absolute commitment to humanitarian support. This is complete madness.

Origins. In 1997, someone (for the life of me I can't recall who) sent me a thick document. One look at it was enough. It was a massive new settlement in the occupied West Bank between Jerusalem and the Jordan River Valley. It was glaringly evident that it would have a devastating impact on any possible future political agreement. It was called E-1. Shortly thereafter, I visited DC for unrelated reasons. Friends told me I must share the document with the Clinton adminstration. I found myself the following day at the State Department. A few minutes into my explanation, my host interrupted and asked: "When are you leaving town". "Tonight" I answered" "No you're not. Be here at 8 tomorrow morning ". The following morning I found myself on all fours on the floor of a 7th story office at State, with a senior member of the Clinton administration next to me, poring over the maps and sketches of E-1. My host was poker-faced. But he did say this much: "This goes to the White House". It was months before I heard that Clinton had told Netanyahu, who was Prime Minister at the time: "Don't". And Netanyahu didn't. The rest is history. Every American President (until Trump) and every major world leader, told Israel: "don't". And every Israeli Prime Minister refrained from building E-1. There were times when Israel decided to move forward, and every time Israel was attentive to our allies, and didn't. Once it was Foreign Secretary Jack Straw who convinced Condaleeza Rice who convinced President Bush, and Israel acquiesced. And on more than one occasion, it was Angela Merkel who talked sense to Netanyahu. Until now. This is one example of an unshackled Netanyahu recklessly and defiantly taking Israel to places we never went before. And he listens to no one except his wife, his son, and the voices in his head that haunt him in the night. It is no accident that every world leader cautioned against E-1, and that every Israeli Prime Minister refrained from implementing E-1. There is no greater threat to the viability of the two-state solution than occupation. Israel will end occupation, or the occupation will be the end of Israel. And no single settlement jeopardizes the very possibility of ever ending occupation and reaching an agreement with the Palestinians. It will condemn us to perpetual occupation, permanent apartheid and endless cycles of bloodshed. That has been the position of virtually all of Israel 's allies. I have shown E-1 to countless numbers of people, some prominent. I dare not speak for anyone but myself. Certainly not regarding the Burnham-Miliband initiative. But I have been to E-1 with David Cameron (more than once), with William Hague, with Lord Owen and others. If they tell you what they think, it may put the accusations of anti-Semitism and Israel-hatred to rest. I am not British, I'm not Conservative, Labour, Lib Dem or anything else. I am an Israeli who hopes to leave a viable country and decent society for my children and grandchildren. And for that reason, I am deeply grateful for yesterday's address and the policies of the Burnham-Miliband Government.

We are deeply alarmed by the disturbing reports of #HussamAbuSafiya being subjected to continued beatings, deliberate sleep deprivation, and threats against divulging his detention conditions while in Israeli custody. Israeli authorities must immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abu Safiya and all Palestinians arbitrary detained. Pending Dr. Hussam’s release, the Israeli Prison Service must ensure he is fully protected from abuse, granted urgent adequate and independent medical care and allowed immediate visitation by independent monitors. I am so grateful to the team behind Israel Exposed. Could I please ask you all, my followers, for a huge favour? Can you please retweet the tweet? Then I want you to quote-tweet it as well. These guys need to break out of any algorithmic pitfalls in their way because this is important information and data about Gaza's War Crimes. This is every war crime they could document electronically, mapped to exact locations, and this is what we will use in the future, hopefully in the Nuremberg version of Gaza We cannot allow the hundreds of thousands of people who have been killed and are now being found in the rubble to go without justice. They cannot be allowed to disappear, and these monsters and Demons in Israel cannot get away with it. They must be held to account, and you can help. Do your part, thank you
We have released the Gaza Node Map: every event, location, person, video, soldier, strike, victim, journalist, etc - are mapped out as a nodes, and each node linked with it's related nodes for researchers. Seriously, how did the USA (population 349 million) become a vassal state of Israel (population 9.6 million).
SO NOW OUR STATES CAN BOYCOTT THE UK Close to 40 states across the U.S. have laws that require ending contracts with and/or divesting from companies that engage in antisemitic boycotts, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) against Israel. These states whose combined GDP is significant should publicly make clear to countries such as the UK that companies that engage in BDS because of their decisions will face consequences under state anti-BDS laws.  By the way, Florida and Texas combined have a much larger GDP than the UK.

I find this data both hilarious & depressing. Where is the economic windfall being spent? Where is the benefit to irish citizens? Our healthcare system can't cope with demands, our third level students & working class can't afford housing, the majority of families are struggling.
Europe's headline economic output numbers are being skewed. One smallish country accounts for this. From this morning's Eurostat release on GDP and employment across the bloc.
