All of the Halo ports and remakes I’m complicit in subjecting you to pale in comparison to the majesty of playing originals via Xbox emulation at 2x resolution, on a 4:3 OLED, at 120fps… on an Android handheld.

I’m seeing a lot of chatter about revisiting Mass Effect games where people are looking at Lore inconsistencies through the post-wiki fandom lens. Mass Effect’s world is an excuse for your characters and relationships to change shape. It’s cohesion just above say, classic Trek.

And below ā€œI didn’t think about all the kissing they did when I made them siblings laterā€. It is not about whether or not you think the Evil Computer’s Plan was sound, or if you think you could give him a better one. You can give him and his friend your guns/biotics/dialog.

Sometimes by ā€œseparate the art from the artistā€, we just mean ā€œthe artist is going to eat junk food while he scripts a hunger system that favors nutritionā€.

One of the best things about indie games is that nobody asked for them. No meeting of people in suits decided your game should exist. You just wanted to make something cool that you love. Never forget that's your biggest strength You're indie. Be weird, be raw, be authentic! ā¤ļø

Designing a drop-in drop-out couch co-op game for 3 players was much more noble in my head… before my lap was full of controllers and I began trying to test connect/disconnect race conditions. Mostly weeded out the prototype. Then I have to finish refactoring cameras.

All of his work was a staple in my house growing up. He did something great for every audience. Alien, Picket Fences, Top Gun, Steel Magnolias… SpaceCamp. Thanks for everything, Tom.

While we’re over here self-cannibalizing our industry for all the wrong reasons, let’s do America, but make it 18+.
Games with loot boxes and gachas will now automatically receive 16 age ratings from European ratings board PEGI. The change is also applied retroactively to digital games: pocketgamer.biz/games-with-l…

A little more camera progress. Working on the handoff system between the spline cameras and the standard gameplay camera. Adding controls and parameters to let the cameras find an ideal position & rotation along the spline before they transition.

Been a bit under the weather, but started prototyping a spline camera system that can transition in and out of free roam gameplay. Still lots of work and experimentation to do.

Look, I never thought I’d be Team Monoculture… But if your new show/movie needs my eyeballs to survive, and it’s antithetical to the 3 distinct vibes of Oct/Nov/Dec? I love you Ethan Hawke, but no, I will not visit Albuquerque in October.

I'm a Halo modder that Halo Studios hired when planning to bring MCC to PC, and with it, modding support. And last month I re-became a Halo modder after @asha_shar's leadership decided I and others needed to be laid off because our rolls didn't align with the business
Microsoft just announced Xbox Labs, a response to the AI-powered game decompiling we've seen recently. Whether it's skateboarding in CoD or Halo in a browser, Xbox Labs is a new group tasked with exploring this new era of modding. Details šŸ‘‡theverge.com/news/1010406/xb…

I think that sometimes, especially for each subsequent generation, these types of bullies, or being under the boot of one is a less ubiquitous experience. But what it felt like to be a child *hunted* by another child used to be what was relatable, not fantastical about King.
Replying to @Manny4p
Stephen King always writes bullies who always go that extra mile when it comes to cruelty. It's one of his best tropes, but at least he puts some effort into it without making it too over-the-top.

Flanagan’s Carrie is already an All-Star Game of character actors you’re always happy to see pop up, and I’m only 15 minutes in.

I think there’s a few factors here. Nostalgia became a marketing vector with less of a moving target; which is more identifiable because Millennials were the last generation with anchors in shared monoculture…
I’m not a millennial, but I’ve always found this interesting. A lot of millennials seem unusually attached to childhood nostalgia well into adulthood. Not just remembering it fondly, but actively revisiting it, recreating it, and sometimes even trying to experience things they feel they missed growing up. From cartoons and video games to fandoms, toys, collectibles, and childhood franchises, nostalgia seems to play a much bigger role in millennial culture than it does for Gen Z or older generations. Maybe it’s because they grew up during the transition from an analog world to a digital one. Maybe it’s because childhood felt more optimistic before social media, smartphones, and constant online pressure became the norm. I don't necessarily think it's cringe. If anything, it's a fascinating generational trait. But it does make me wonder: Why do millennials seem so much more interested in reliving childhood than the generations before or after them?

All the identifiers of adulthood we were raised with are similarly within a holding pattern. And while younger generations grew up never expecting things like home ownership, or long-term employment, we were the generation robbed of it.

Relics of the old world are kind of security blankets, or opportunities to express passion, expertise, or common ground wherein the everyday of modern life has kind of eroded that component/reality.
