“Reality In Ruins” is officially out in the world; let’s throw sand in the machine—tell the truth and yes, wait for the truth—disreality be damned.

Announcing my new book: DEFYING TYRANTS: Following Jesus in a World of Christian Antichrists.
Pre-order now, out October 6th.
For those who've followed my reporting on Christian nationalism — this one goes somewhere different.
A thread. 🧵

1st preacher at @PeteHegseth's monthly Pentagon prayer services was his former pastor in Doug Wilson's denomination. Preachers since then: 3 Southern Baptist pastors, grandson of Billy Graham, & former NFL player accused of insider trading:

As the Department of Homeland Security once again kidnaps a Bible verse to justify militarized hunting of immigrants in a social media video, I'm reminded that the Bible shows us that even Satan knows how to quote Scripture.

ALT As U.S. troops left Iraq, their combat gear went to police. This graph compares the number of U.S. troops deployed to Iraq and the value of Pentagon property acquired by police through the 1033 program. As troop levels fell, the value of matériel transferred to police increased. Data: DLA, LESO, CRS.

Gonzaga has reached nine straight Sweet Sixteens (including two title games), the only team in the nation to do that. Gonzaga is only the fourth team in college hoop history to reach nine straight, joining UCLA, North Carolina and Duke. Gonzaga has always had fearless competitors. You may beat them, but you have to kill them. Remarkable. @ZagMBB

AIDS deaths and starvation rising in Africa... hospitals closing in refugee camps in Thailand... kids watching their grandparents being dragged away in the US.
It shouldn't be controversial to say that any movement that brings "bad news to the poor" is not a Christian movement.

Since taking office, Trump, Musk, Vance and the Trump admin have cast aspersions on and/or cut funds to:
· The Episcopal Bishop of Washington
· The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops
· Lutheran service groups
· A Christian service group (CWS)
· Faith groups that aid refugees
NEW: Faith-based orgs that partner with the govt to resettle refugees are instituting mass furloughs.
Why so soon?
Bc Trump all but shut down the refugee program AND, per one org, is *refusing to reimburse them for work done before he assumed office.* religionnews.com/2025/02/04/…
