👏
Slavery was an evil in which people from every continent and region participated. We should be honest about the whole history, not select the parts that are politically convenient today, especially given Britain's leading role in ending the transatlantic slave trade. If Caribbean countries are asking Britain for a formal apology for Britain’s role in the transatlantic slave trade, will they also be asking the same of the descendants of African kingdoms, rulers and merchants who captured, sold and profited from the trade? On demands for reparations, whether through cash or debt relief, we have been down this track before. Twenty-five years ago, Jubilee 2000, Drop the Debt and Make Poverty History argued that cancelling the debts of poorer countries would give them a fresh start. More than $100 billion of debt was eventually written off, but many of those countries have since built up even bigger debts. Labour are already spending too much on Britain's welfare state, now is not the time for Andy Burnham to be providing global welfare. There is no reason British taxpayers today should be held financially responsible for things that happened generations before any of us were born. And I have even less patience for political elites in commonwealth countries who don’t know how to make their own citizens prosperous now looking for another opportunity to blame Britain. As Prime Minister, Andy Burnham should be Britain’s greatest defender. Instead, he is writing articles saying we need to confront our history (as if we haven't done enough of that) and considering another formal historical apology. Tony Blair already expressed Britain’s deep sorrow and regret for our role in the slave trade nearly twenty years ago. There is no need to do so again. This is all another navel-gazing distraction. The Commonwealth should be looking forward, not endlessly backwards. That means economic partnerships to make us all richer and deeper military and security cooperation against common threats. If every Commonwealth summit becomes an exercise in presenting Britain with demands for cash then we need to start asking if it is worth the effort.

Britain's role in the slave trade was to end it. That's the very last thing we should be apologising for.
🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham says he’s open to Britain formally apologising for its role in transatlantic slave trade He also hopes to restructure debt for the poorest Commonwealth countries “I want to express my sorrow and regret”

So, the French socialists, and Parliament members just voted a tax, that they don’t understand, which would cost VideoLAN more than 1 million euro per year. They are probably the most clueless politician on Earth? And they claim they want technological sovereignty… @LaurentLhardit

Patrick Stewart. Turned up so early and so unobtrusively to be a star in the reasonably priced car, we mistook him for a delivery driver and asked him to go round the back. Took his hat off and said, “But I’m the captain of the Enterprise”. Fucking nice guy.

His genuine smile and want to help really is the reason why this video took off. Sometimes seems like this demeanor has been beaten out of a majority of the people you see in public. It’s not enough to reward Red Baron Pizza guy, we must find and punish the retarded content creator.
What gets me is how when he’s asked for the time he’s immediately helpful, and even offers a smile towards the cameraman when he thinks he’s just confused or something. The guy is about to come apart at the seams, but you’d never know unless you pushed him like this rat did. I hope his fundraiser breaks $1M and he has a peaceful holiday season with his family.

SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026) Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love. We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway. America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire. His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen. Ian McKellen 29 October 2026 Photo: University of Huddersfield

Jesus. MPs are now trying regulate football chants.
I’ve written to @premierleague Chief Executive Richard Masters demanding action on poverty chanting following Everton’s game against Chelsea. Everton & Liverpool supporters have endured this class prejudice for years. Mocking families who cannot afford to put food on the table is shameful. Through Fans Supporting Foodbanks, supporters stand together to feed our communities. The Premier League must show the same solidarity & leadership. Hunger doesn’t wear colours. It’s time our game acted like it. #RightToFood #HungerIsAPoliticalChoice

I think tackles like these should be a red card (I know they never are). This is what Shawcross was trying to do with Ramsey and Taylor with Eduardo, they were both trying to get the ball but do so with unnecessary force to intimidate the player and ‘leave one on them’. The problem is, as we saw in those two cases, you get it ever so slightly wrong and we’re talking ambulances and oxygen masks. It’s the same reason you’re not allowed to drive 100mph. Going in with the force adds absolutely nothing to the act of winning possession or the tackle itself. It’s intended to intimate but but you get it ever so slightly wrong you’re looking at a serious injury. Referees need to get out of the dark ages with this stuff, stop fussing about technical areas and whether a throw in takes six seconds instead of seven seconds. Protect players and punish violent conduct properly 👍

RIP Patrick Stewart. What an actor. I still can’t believe he agreed to do this scene. And he didn’t even mind when I ruined every take. Legend.

The FA had a duty of care towards Max. What was his crime? Mildly reacting to a dangerous challenge. Instead of protecting a 16 yr old, you chose to suspend him and promote violent conduct. Thankfully Max didnt suffer a serious injury because apparently thats what it takes.

It's like I wrote yesterday. This is not sustainable. And Ministers know it's not sustainable. Which is why they must be planning for a snap election. You can't seriously govern like this.
6am: Healey tells BBC he will bring down benefits bill before election 8:20: Treasury dispute the story 1pm: No10 disown it saying they have never set a target 2pm: PM says cuts as soon as possible 4pm: Healey says Labour won't bring bill down this Parliament

Looking forward to countless other examples of (actual) violent conduct not being punished this season, and then being told we're the crazy ones. The people running the game are allergic to common sense and they aren't bothered about player safety - only about optics.

🎙️Fleetwood's Adam Murphy talking to Off The Ball: 🗣️“They were very classy in the tunnel afterwards. There was a good few of us waiting outside their changing room just to see if they’d throw us their jersey. “Odegaard came out, and there was a few of us waiting, and he shook all of our hands and said ‘very best of luck, you deserved it’. 🥹 “I was outside the changing room [waiting for] anyone really, their squad is just unbelievable, you’d take anyone’s [jersey]. Dowman was there, and I ended up getting his jersey.”😍 #afc

Regulation & Discipline update on @Arsenal:

Omg I’ve been saying this for years.
A Restore Britain Government will look to abolish tuition fees entirely for those British students entering professions of national importance. The first announced is dentistry. In return, we will ask for a commitment - qualify, work hard and serve Britain for a minimum of ten years. Those who fulfil that commitment will have their fees covered - those who leave will be required to repay a proportionate amount. We should be investing in our own people, training the professionals our country so desperately needs and rewarding those who choose to build their ultra-skilled careers here rather than emigrating overseas. Our message to those aspiring young British men and women is this... Britain will invest in you. In return, we ask you to invest in Britain.
