EWS1 Thread - a short (ish) story of a national scandal. #EndOurCladdingScandal
Cautiously optimistic but will only be popping champagne corks when we've either had our remediation costs paid for or I've managed to sell. Gove needs to back this up with tangible actions and commitments written into law #endourfiresafetyscandal

Imagine if the BBC charged @michaelgove the full cost for fixing their broken lift, even though he doesn't own it, he was just using it for a short time. (1/5)
And it’s this government leaseholders like myself are relying on to fight out corner and save us from corrupt house builders.
I won’t hold my breath.

So there is tax payer money available, just not for those who actually need it
As a tax payer I would much rather my taxes be put towards literally anything other than subsidising morally bankrupt developers
#EndOurFireSafetyScandal
See, there is always plenty of taxpayers' money available for developers.
They know Govt will not make them pay for shoddy #construction work so they will carry on.
Shocking dereliction of duty from @RobertJenrick @team_greenhalgh and @ChrisPincher

Ironically, the billionaire freeholder that is demanding thousands of pounds off us so we can't buy a house, is on the board of @StMungos, the homelessness charity. As someone who has been homeless herself, and managed to get on the property ladder, feels like a slap in the face.
Can you imagine anything else having such a crippling impact on the housing market? This was even with a stamp duty holiday!

🏴⚽️ IT’S COMING HOME ⚽️🏴
It: Massive remediation bills for something I didn’t cause
Home: my flat in a flammable building built by Bellway which failed to meet regulations at the time it was completed

@RobertJenrick
Terrifying figures here, awful to see.
@RobertJenrick do you still think you’re doing enough?

The audacity. I’m surprised the government haven’t got kids singing “Strong Bellway. Great Housing Developer”

The wheels are coming off the government’s repeated attempt to “PR” its way out of this. The issues are real. The bills are starting to become real. Flats will not sell on the back of those bills. Reality will not match the government’s rhetoric. #NotJustCladding #WeAreTrapped

@TheSundayTimes reports misleading and inaccurate info on the progress to remediate unsafe buildings. Our priority is making sure residents are safe by removing dangerous cladding from the highest risk buildings as quickly as possible. Our response:

While a lot of #CladdingScandal flack has rightly fallen on the govt and developers, management companies need to step up and prove that they are looking after the interests of leaseholders.
Instead some appear to be prioritising themselves, or worse, profiting from the scandal
Replying to @KathPinnock
The consequence is that essential and urgent fire safety work is not being done. Leaseholders cannot commit to pay when they have no means to do so. How is the Government intending to break this impasse in the interests of fire safety? #EndOurFireSafetyScandal
Excellent analysis as always on the #CladdingScandal from @LiamSpender, if he helps to solve the crisis I for one would support a statue of him outside each affected building (funded by developers of course)
1/15 A visceral image of fire at ACM-clad New Providence Wharf in London.
I hope everyone is alright and that the damage to people's homes is not extensive.
Some thoughts below on the govt's inevitable spin in response to this fire.
