On this day, we remember the victims of the 7 October terrorist attacks on Israel by Hamas, the single largest murder of Jews in one day since the Holocaust.
We honour their memory, stand with the survivors, the bereaved families, the hostages and their loved ones, and reaffirm our commitment to the State of Israel and its right to exist as the nation-state of the Jewish people.
May their memories be a blessing.
Today, on the English date marking one year since the terrorist attack on Heaton Park Synagogue, we remember with sadness and love Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby, zโl, and we continue to hold in our hearts all those who were injured, traumatised and affected by that terrible day.
In the immediate aftermath, and throughout the year that followed, The Fed has stood alongside the victims, survivors and their families, providing specialist social care, emotional support, advocacy, practical assistance and ongoing help navigating lives changed forever. That support continues today, because trauma and grief do not end when the headlines fade.
As the Manchester Jewish community, we remember. We mourn. And we remain committed to ensuring that everyone affected knows they are not alone.
We also stand with Rabbi Walker in his steadfast desire to ensure we do not let the terrorist's actions define us, and we join with him in reiterating that we will remain a proud and visible community. ๐งก

Earlier this week we presented Ruth Vecht with her incredible Fed My Voice book, โA Lesson in Humanityโ.
Surrounded by family and friends and her younger sister Eva, Danish-born Ruth, 90, spoke about the wonderful Danes who stood shoulder to shoulder with the Jews when the Nazis tightened their grip on Denmark in 1943, offering safety and refuge in their summer houses and homes so they wouldnโt be deported.
Remarkably, of the 8,000 Jews in Denmark in 1943, only around 400 to 500 were deported, and all but 51 survived. โHumanity could learn a great deal from the Danes,โ said Ruth last night.
With the help of the Danish community, Ruthโs family crossed over to Sweden on Yom Kippur and remained there until the war ended.
After receiving her book, Ruth spoke about the day she returned to Denmark, the 28th May 1945, as, โthe happiest day of my life. I learned that you could go anywhere in the world, have nothing and still be a good Jew. And I knew then I was going to have lots of children and tell them what I knew.โ
Ruth was true to her word. She came over to the UK as an au pair when she was 19, married Aron Vecht and they went on to have six children, 24 grandchildren and many more great-grandchildren.
Ruthโs Fed My Voice book, โA Lesson in Humanityโ is the 57th book in the My Voice collection and takes on even greater significance in this time of growing antisemitism. As Lauren Libbert, My Voiceโs London Project Lead, said at the presentation: โIt stands as a beacon of hope and shows how a nation and its citizens can lead with humanity, courage and dignity, and push against the tide.โ

It's not just the quality of social care. It's the friendships, the laughter, the dignity, the independence, the sense of belonging, and the peace of mind that comes from knowing someone truly cares.

We welcome that the Prime Minister and Health Secretary chose to highlight the work of two of our member @Jewish_Care and @FED_Manchester during their announcement that Baroness Casey will bring forward her review by a year and that cross-party talks will begin today. "The Fed is whole person care"
We are very proud that Prime Minister @andyburnham once again mentioned The Fed as the true example of what "whole person care should be."
The Prime Minister has visited The Fed on numerous occasions, and his comments are a tribute to our remarkable colleagues, whose dedication, compassion and professionalism enrich the lives of residents and tenants at Heathlands Village, as well as supporting one in seven Jewish households across Greater Manchester.
We welcome the Prime Minister's commitment to fixing the many challenges the care sector face and stand ready to support and advise if required.

Last night, The Fed and Magen David Adom UK were proud to host Lord David Wolfson KC, Shadow Attorney General, for a compelling In Conversation at Bowdon Synagogue - led by Raphi Bloom, The Fed's Director of Fundraising & Marketing and the My Voice project, with an audience of over 175 people.
Articulate and humorous, deeply knowledgeable and widely regarded as one of the UK Jewish communityโs most compelling voices, Lord Wolfson led a wide-ranging discussion spanning leadership, the UK political landscape, and the growing challenges facing Jewish life today.
On Israel, the conversation explored the Israel-Hamas war, the disproportionate scrutiny placed on Israel, the UK Governmentโs response - including positions on the ICJ, ICC and recognition of the State of Palestine - and the broader impact on diaspora Jewry. These discussions sat alongside a frank examination of the rise in anti-Jewish racism since 7 October, community safety, free speech, and the shifting dynamics of protest movements and Muslim-Jewish interfaith relations.
We were also delighted to welcome Daniela Grudsky Eckstein, Chargรฉ dโAffaires at the Israeli Embassy in London, who thanked Manchesterโs Jewish community for its unwavering support of Israel - especially since October 7 - and joined a lively audience Q&A.
The evening also highlighted the strong partnership between The Fed and Magen David Adom. UK, bringing together shared commitments to care, resilience and supporting communities both locally and in Israel - "home and away."

At our recent Dinners With A Difference this film stopped the room.
Because what it shows isnโt just outstanding care - itโs love, family, and time given back.
At Heathlands Village, stories like Sarineโs and Saulโs are surrounded by warmth, compassion and outstanding care, delivered in a full and deeply valued Jewish environment.
Dedicated staff and carers take on the daily responsibilities, the practical challenges, and the worries - lifting a huge burden from families and giving them something priceless in return: time.
Time for children, grandchildren and greatโgrandchildren to sit together.
To talk. To laugh. To connect.
Not as carers - but as family.
This emotional and powerful film tells a story four generations, showing what becomes possible when care, dignity, Jewish life and love all come together in one place.
This is Heathlands Village.
And this is what it looks like when a community truly looks after its own.

Fed My Voice Director Raphi Bloom delivered a powerful presentation on the life of Holocaust survivor Ike Alterman BEM to Wigan Athleticโs Academy โ first speaking to the U15/16 squads, then the U13/14 groups โ as part of the My Voice Guardian programme.
The players heard Ikeโs extraordinary journey โ from a childhood shattered by the Holocaust, through ghettos, concentration and death camps, to the resilience that helped him rebuild his life with dignity and purpose.
They listened with maturity and respect โ recognising they were hearing a story that demands empathy, reflection and responsibility.
Raphi stressed that Ikeโs testimony is a vital educational tool โ helping young people understand the consequences of unchecked hatred, discrimination and dehumanisation. Holocaust education, he explained, is not just about the past โ it equips the next generation to recognise prejudice, challenge harmful narratives and protect the dignity of all people.
He highlighted values the players can live out daily โ tolerance, hope, kindness and resilience โ on the pitch, in school and in their communities.
A key message was the responsibility to challenge intolerance wherever it appears. Prejudice often begins subtly โ jokes, words, comments, exclusion โ and silence allows it to grow. Raphi urged the players to challenge it in every space, choosing courage over comfort.
He also addressed the dangers of Holocaust denial and inversion โ where facts are distorted or twisted. By hearing Ikeโs story, the players have now listened to a survivorโs testimony. They have become witnesses to a witness โ carrying Ikeโs story forward and standing up to denial, distortion and hatred whenever they encounter it.
Feedback after the sessions showed the deep impact of the presentation โ the players left with stronger knowledge of the Holocaust and a renewed commitment to stand up to prejudice.
