Congratulations 🙏🏽 @B_Fernandes8
The first United player to win the PFA POTY in over 15 years...
Despite the critics rightfully earning recognition of peers and rivals
A testament of hard work and effort
Hopefully we won't wait another 15 years for a next Mens United PFA
It doesn't matter who they appoint as long as they keep making the same poor mistakes they always have
Poor strategic vision
- no consistency
- no clarity of purpose
- no common objective
They can't decide because they have no idea what they want for United
🚨💣 BREAKING:
Michael Carrick's future was already sealed, but United’s hierarchy cannot agree among themselves on his successor.

MUN v BOU
Who we blaming now?
Height of the grass, shape of the ball?
The main source of blame is on the bench
Almost like...the issue is, has been and will always be more than one player
Overall play hasn't been bad just IMPOTENT in the final 3rd
And calamitous in ours
Same issues I was talking about during preseason on display
That's the concerning part
The lack of growth
There was always bound to be an acclimation period to Carrick's new tactics
It feels beyond that
The intent is there
Execution is not..

For those who have been paying attention Bruno Fernandes' role has substantially changed this season
He sometimes takes up positions of a F9 , SS or even on the wings all with him remaining substantially higher up the field
But the intent is clear
Reduce reliance on Bruno
If he believes the team needs a SS then bench him
Once it works sell him
I dont see how the team or Bruno adapts to the SS role
The team lacks creativity and a SS needs that to survive
Reducing one of the best creators itw to an off the ball runner is a waste of his ability
Change in role has obviously taken a toll
But Bruno still remains among our most dangerous players
If there's any hope of United salvaging this season we need to find a way to reactivate his best form
Because even at his worst he's better than most
xitter.cf/FOBSVR/status/21142543…
Noone can perform at their best forever
But I really believe the "fall off" of Bruno is exaggerated
-NOONE at United is performing particularly well
- Passing threat still among PL best
-Distance stats still among United's best
-His role has substantially changed this season
When this running debate started I made a similar point
Imo if you can't commit to it fully you shouldn't press period
There are hybrid versions BUT require good coordination
Problem is nobody cares about your philosophy if results don't back it up...

Michael Carrick on #mufc’s lack of running:
"I think you've got to be careful with just saying ‘not running’. We’ve won a lot of games over a period of time and this pressing thing, that suddenly everyone thinks about pressing.
Pressing is one small part of football. There's all sorts of different ways of what people class as a press. What actually is it? What you're doing it for? Is it to your strength? Is it covering up other spaces?
It's just thrown about as a bit of a word at the minute of pressing. You don't necessarily need to press to win games of football. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. It's just a thing that gets thrown about." [@samuelluckhurst]

But thats exactly why standards have fallen
We hide behind our big club status built on those that came before
We've not won a PL in 13 YEARS
We spend more time trying to get back to those glory days rather than building a modern day dynasty
The present is leaving us behind
INEOS and Carrick:
But honestly it didn't have to go like this
Those numbers were achieved with the same players and manager we have now
But the structure that protected and brought out better versions of these players have been replaced with the opposite
Self-destruction...
One of the reasons why we shouldn't have changed until we had the profiles or coaching to overcome these issues:

Emphasis on possession the downfall:

Carrick has fallen to the possession trap
One of our biggest problems otb has been we do not USE the ball well
Our players are unproductive and inefficient
Movement uncoordinated and sluggish
Carrick has improved how MUCH of the ball we have but has not improved HOW we use it
Why'd he have to go down this road man...
I have a lot of time for this demeanor
Why through gas on the fire
Now the media has to be quiet until Sunday
No story here
Would have been easy to warpath here
But this quiets the noise
Results buys patience
And he needs cash
But every time I start to feel sorry for him I allow Eren to remind me↓

Cohesive strategic thinking of the highest level
They have months to make these decisions and still get it wrong
And when they do, it's just "woops" and everyone moves on
Planning has been the biggest failure at this club
And it all stems from a lack of strategic direction
In short, United were considering Amorim as one of the options to replace Ten Hag but decided not go fo for him, then decided not to replace Ten Hag at all, only to sack him 3 months later and go for Amorim, in addition to sacking the director of football who wanted to bring Howe instead of Amorim, then sacked Amorim a year later and thought about hiring Nagelsmann, but since he was unavailable, went for Carrick, who himself might be on the verge of getting sacked a year later, only for the club to go back to Howe, even though the guy they wanted after Amorim is now available. The way this has been going, a decision to offer another contract to Ten Hag would not come as a massive surprise.
Elite planning and execution, best in class.
Ive been complaining about this for YEARS
And don't let anyone say "oh you're all just saying this in hindsight"
Those decisions were HIGHLY questionable before and after they were made
Look through the questions below
All the concerns were validated

The biggest issue for MU is poor planning...
Managers come managers go, players come players go but the same problem persists..
It's been clear it's beyond the players or managers
When are we going to hold the club that is persistently making these
decisions accountable....
This is the funniest one I've seen🤣
Bruno wanting the team to perform at the "HIGHEST LEVEL" and not to fixate on what we achieved previously is him wanting to lower standards
What??🤣
The gymnastics they do to twist Bruno's words they'll have to check for a spinal injury
What's the point of this 4-2-4 press
Typically it's designed to block the center force wide, pincer and force turnovers
We don't do that
His 4-2-4 has far too much space from front to back, midfield very exposed
We did this a lot in preseason and thankfully stopped until now
It all just feels like a mix match of ideas
Not committing to any one thing
Adaptation is fine
But when done correctly
This hybrid approach doesn't work and makes little sense
That's the crooks of what Bruno's calling for
Be committed

And that's exactly his point
When we half press it doesn't work
The TEAM needs to commit to it
We STARTED pressing high this season yk
But when we don't we don't defend compactly or defend high
We half commit to multiple things
Clearly not working
xitter.cf/FOBSVR/status/21132122…
Exactly
We have m2m pressed at times this season
We didn't against Como but did 4-2-4 instead
Neither fully works (m2m a bit better)
So why do either 🤦🏽♂️
There ARE other options
xitter.cf/umirf1/status/21132559…
The TLDR of it is that they both have a point but I don't think either Bruno Fernandes or Michael Carrick are entirely correct.
The narrow 4-2-4 that looks to spring pressing traps has too many obvious solutions against it that United are being undone fairly easily – I explain these solutions in the piece.
At the same time, a full M2M approach doesn't suit the squad either, I highlight the factors behind this too.
Something in between is the solution short-term but for me, the biggest worry is the fact that the players (or at the very least, Bruno Fernandes) haven't brought into a shared vision in how they approach the game.
Without that, it's very hard to win.
Ahahahahah that's hilarious
Fabregas says the exactly same thing Bruno does
I long for the day we're not a laughing stock
Problem is these are situations of our own making
Cesc Fabregas literally saying the same as thing as Bruno Fernandes but people would rather listen to Jamie Carragher he’s never managed a day is in life? Say less!
xitter.cf/footballontnt/status/2…
This always baffles me
One game should never be enough to save or fire a manager
More than that though the criteria for WHY we're considering firing them needs to be scrutinized
The decision to hire or fire a manager should be strategic not reactionary
We're too reactionary

I never get to talk about this outside of work!
I actually agree that the game creates the numbers, not the other way around.
Where I think we differ is epistemologically.
Let me explain.
