“Before Jesus asks for our whole heart, He gives us His.” We often think faith begins with what we have to do for God But what if we’ve got the starting point backwards? This Sunday’s homily: homilyonthespot.com/2026/10/…

My prayers go out to all those who were injured or lost their lives last Friday in the terrorist attack on worshippers at the Orthodox Church of Saint George in Hamoud, Jordan. I express my closeness to the community and the entire country, which is known for its peaceful coexistence and respect between different religions.

Sadly, we have been informed that the number of martyrs from the terrorist attack on St George’s Church in Jordan has risen from 7 to 9. We pray for our brothers who have borne witness to Christ through their martyrdom, as well as for the swift recovery of the injured.

After 72 years of marriage, Gordon died holding Norma’s hand. But his heart monitor kept registering a heartbeat. A remarkable true story opens this Sunday’s homily -and points to something far greater. WHOSE HEARTBEAT? homilyonthespot.com/2026/10/…

Thanks for the support … but the real question is who leaked our grand plan?
I am not Catholic. But propagating conspiracy theories that conservative American Catholics have a secret plan to take over the US and destroy our system of government is as offensive as suggesting that conservative American Jews do.

In only 11 more days, Said Abdelrazek converted from Islam to Christianity and wasnt ashamed ✝️ For that, Egypt locked him in 10th of Ramadan Prison. He was hung in a crucifixion position so guards and inmates could mock him. They removed a cross tattoo off his body. He still would not recant. On July 15, 2025, they arrested him againthis time for trying to change his ID to match his faith. The charge: terrorism. The real reason: he left Islam. His health is collapsing. Medical care is being withheld. His next hearing is November 3rd 2026. That date could decide whether he lives or disappears💔 This is not terrorism. This is apostasy treated as a national-security crime.Remember those in prison as if you were there with them. (Hebrews 13:3) Demand his release. Share his name. Do not let this stay quiet. Said Abdelrazek is in an Egyptian prison because he became a Christian. They hung him in a crucifix position. They tried to remove his cross tattoo. Now they call it “terrorism.” Hearing: November 3rd, 2026. He could face death or life in prisoom. Stand with him. #WWJD #FreeSaidAbdelrazek #ReligiousFreedom #EndChristianPersecution #11Days

On October 22, 1978, during the inaugural Mass of Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Square, a historic and deeply emotional exchange took place between the newly elected Polish pontiff and his mentor, Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński, the Primate of Poland. As the College of Cardinals processed forward to pledge obedience and kiss the papal ring, Cardinal Wyszyński who had been a mentor and close ally to Karol Wojtyła for years approached the altar. When Wyszyński moved to kneel, John Paul II immediately stood up, prevented him from kneeling, raised him to his feet, and embraced him. Cardinal Wyszyński insisted on showing traditional reverence, and the Pope held him tightly, kissing his face, head, and hands in a powerful sign of gratitude and respect. On October 23, 1978, the day after the ceremony, Pope John Paul II publicly acknowledged the cardinal's immense sacrifice and leadership under communist persecution, stating: "This Polish pope... would not be on Peter's Chair were it not for your faith, which did not retreat before prison and suffering." Both Churchmen were instrumental to the collapse of communism in Poland.

Father Andrii Stebivka, a priest of the Greek Catholic Eparchy of Mukachevo, was forcibly detained by recruitment officers and taken to a military training camp from where he could potentially be sent to the front lines of the war with Russia, his family stated. The incident took place on Oct. 12 at a checkpoint in the Rivne region of northwestern Ukraine. The 38-year-old priest, who was ordained two years ago, was returning from participating in a spiritual retreat, according to his parents, Bohdan and Natalia Stebivka. Stebivka was recently transferred to a different parish, but administrative delays inherent in this change of pastoral assignment created a temporary gap in the state registry that formally certifies the pastoral work and ministerial service of priests in Ukraine. Despite repeated efforts to provide proof of his active clergy status and ongoing pastoral service to the faithful, recruitment authorities rejected his documentation and sent him to a military training center. According to his family, he has already been assigned to a special assault unit and is expected to enter combat in the near future. The bishop of the Eparchy of Mukachevo, Teodor Matsapula, and the apostolic nunciature in Ukraine are taking formal steps with government authorities to clarify the priest’s status and secure his reinstatement to his parish duties. So far, these requests have gone unanswered. Stebivka, who was ordained a priest in June 2024 at the Cathedral of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, is also noted for his artistic work as an iconographer. Throughout his ministry, he has created sacred compositions and apse murals in churches in Dublin, Boston, and various Ukrainian cities, such as Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, and Uzhhorod. Faced with the imminent risk of being sent to the battlefield, the priest’s parents have made a public appeal to civil, military, and diplomatic authorities, requesting that the pastoral nature of his vocation be recognized and that he be permitted to continue carrying out his priestly ministry in Mukachevo. This is why I always pray for two things, at a minimum: 1) The wisdom/discernment to see the path that Christ lays out before me. 2) The humility, understanding, and willingness to follow that path.
