OK, one more, but I'm outta gas.🥱 Now for something completely different.
General Motors’ corporate restrictions on multiple carburetors left its performance divisions with fewer ways to increase airflow. The 4-4-2 had to rely on a single Rochester Quadrajet, while Pontiac was forced to abandon its celebrated Tri-Power arrangement. The Corvette remained the exception, but elsewhere the message was clear: more carburetors were no longer an acceptable route to more horsepower. Oldsmobile’s engineers found another way to attack the problem. If corporate policy restricted the number of carburetors, it said nothing about the number of valves.
Their answer was the W-43, a 455-cubic-inch Rocket V8 with four valves per cylinder and thirty-two valves in total. It retained a conventional pushrod layout rather than adopting overhead camshafts. One camshaft operated sixteen pushrods, which actuated the valves through rocker arms. It was an unusual combination: an advanced multivalve cylinder head attached to one of the most traditional American V8 valvetrains.
The W-43 program emerged from Oldsmobile engineering development in the late 1960s, with John Beltz, Lloyd Gill, Joe Jones, and Frank Ball among the people associated with the project. Its ambition was to produce a four-valve 455 for a planned 1972 introduction. The engineering challenge was to improve breathing without abandoning the existing engine architecture. Instead of copying Chrysler’s 426 Hemi and its two large valves in hemispherical chambers, Oldsmobile pursued a pentroof combustion chamber with separate intake and exhaust valves.
The design used 1.750-inch intake valves and 1.375-inch exhaust valves, arranged at relatively narrow angles around a centrally located spark plug. The plugs were positioned in tubes extending through the valve-cover area, an unusual detail that sometimes led observers to mistake the engine for a conventional Hemi. Its combustion-chamber layout was different: four valves, a pentroof chamber, and a central ignition point. The additional valve area was intended to improve cylinder filling across a broad operating range, allowing the large-displacement engine to produce substantial power without depending exclusively on high engine speeds.
The W-43 retained the basic 455 dimensions, with a 4.125-inch bore and 4.250-inch stroke, but its cylinder heads required extensive changes elsewhere in the engine. The pushrod geometry presented a particular problem: the original camshaft position produced unfavorable angles for operating the four valves, and early development exposed the limitations of that arrangement. Oldsmobile’s solution was to raise the operating camshaft in the block using a separate cam carrier. A second, dummy camshaft remained in the original position to drive the distributor and oil pump.
The result was an unusually elaborate two-camshaft arrangement inside a pushrod V8, created to preserve familiar accessory drives while accommodating the new cylinder-head geometry. Hot Rod magazine reported approximately 440 horsepower at 4,600 rpm with relatively mild valve timing and a single Quadrajet. Higher figures, sometimes reaching 500 to 560 horsepower, have also been associated with more developed versions, although those numbers should not be treated as a single verified production specification. An aluminum-block derivative, the OW-43, was explored for competition use, with a different gear-driven overhead-cam arrangement and a substantial weight reduction compared with the iron engine.
The W-43 never reached its intended production debut. Only a tiny number of prototype engines are known to have survived, and one is reportedly installed in a 1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 W-30. Its cancellation belongs to the wider story of GM’s changing performance priorities around the turn of the 1970s, when emissions requirements, lower compression ratios, and corporate decisions reshaped engine development across the divisions. The W-43’s ambitious cylinder heads had been designed for a performance environment that was rapidly disappearing. Oldsmobile had already established a reputation for unconventional engineering: the 1949 Rocket V8, the J-2 triple-carburetor system, and the Toronado’s front-wheel-drive V8 installation all demonstrated a willingness to depart from familiar solutions.
The W-43 extended that tradition by applying four-valve technology to a large American pushrod V8. It was not simply another high-output 455; it was an attempt to solve the airflow problem through cylinder-head design rather than more displacement or more carburetors. Like several ambitious GM engine programs of the period, it remained a prototype rather than becoming a showroom reality. Oldsmobile had built a remarkably sophisticated answer to a corporate restriction, only to see the changing priorities of the era prevent that answer from reaching customers.

Ok fine. I’ll do it. Hey @AbdulElSayed do you endorse gender mixing in mosque bathrooms?
The class would like to know before voting tomorrow. We have to know that all mosques will maintain gender mixing as this is what you want for Americans by letting males into our locker rooms.
What’s good for us is good for you. Isn’t that right?
Vote Republican tomorrow. Elect Mike rogers to the senate.

What does someone who has been indoctrinated by far-left "education" systems sound like?
Her you go:
🏫🌩️🌧️🤷♀️ : Shana Quesnel says the quite part out loud. She went to University & now is struggling because she took courses that gave her no in demand job skills.
🤡 Shana wants pipe fitters, miners, truckers & factory workers to pay taxpayer funded salaries for her & her friends, so a new $1 billion Youth Climate Corps can tell those hard working taxpayers, they're destroying the planet.
🪧 This is what happens when youth go to Universities, not for career training, but for activism indoctrination.
🏪 Shana is desperate because things aren't working out the way she hoped they would & is forced to work 2 part time jobs.

At a boat ramp in Missouri I learned that Americans will bring folding chairs and coffee to watch a stranger back up a trailer.
My friend Wade has a fishing boat. I was the passenger. We got to Lake of the Ozarks at six thirty in the morning, and four old men were already sitting in camping chairs at the top of the ramp, facing the water like Olympic judges.
Wade saw them and went pale. "Aw, man. The Council's here."
The first truck backed down. A young man in a Bass Pro cap. His trailer went left. He turned the wheel. It went more left.
"Hand on the bottom of the wheel, son," said the old man in the middle chair. He did not say it loud. He said it sure.
The young man pulled forward and tried again. Left again.
"Bottom of the wheel."
On the third try the boat slid into the water straight. All four old men lifted their coffee cups about one inch. The young man drove away like he had received a medal.
Then it was our turn.
Wade's hands were shaking. "I can't do it with them watching. You do it."
"I have never backed up a trailer."
"You're a samurai. Do it like a sword thing."
I got in the truck and looked in the mirror. Everything behind me was backward. I turned right, and the trailer went left. For a moment I believed the trailer had been built in a mirror.
So I put my hand on the bottom of the wheel, like the old man said, and moved it one inch at a time. My old teacher used to tell me the slowest cut is the hardest one. I did not know he meant boats.
The trailer went down the ramp straight as an arrow. The boat floated off. Wade jumped in.
Silence from the chairs.
Then the old man in the middle, whose name I later learned was Dutch, slowly raised his whole coffee cup over his head.
The other three turned and stared at him.
"Dutch," one of them said. "Easy."
When we came back at noon, the Council was still there. Dutch waved me over and pointed at an empty folding chair beside him.
"Sit down. Watch this one."
A man in a brand-new truck was backing down the ramp while his wife shouted directions from the dock.
Dutch leaned toward me. "Best part of the day."
I sat. Wade loaded the boat by himself.
