It has been weeks since news broke that Dr Lola Salem faces charges of possessing indecent images of children.
The British press had weeks to demonstrate consistent standards after hounding Professor Jason Arday over unproven plagiarism allegations. Instead, the restraint shown towards Salem has made the contrast even harder to ignore.
This contrast exposes the racial double standard yet again: what counts as "newsworthy" depends less on the seriousness of an allegation than on the colour of the person facing it.
These "journalists" and "news outlets" have spent months destroying their own credibility.
The result is a press that has squandered public trust and driven readers towards independent media.
