We found LOTS of words with increased usage in 2024.
"Delves" got 25 times (!) more frequent. "Showcasing" and "underscores" -- 9 times more.
Among more common words, "potential" saw an increase of 4 percentage points; "crucial" and "findings" -- 3 perc. points.

I’ve been incredibly depressed, distraught, sad, and upset since reading yesterday’s detailed report on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the IDF’s targeting apparatus during the war in Gaza. The killing of over 31 family members of mine in Gaza City and Rafah (the two homes I was raised in) can only be “logically” and “reasonably” explained by the use of these new and error-prone tools and systems. I know my family well and have kept in close contact with them since I left Gaza – they are not members of Hamas and have nothing to do with militancy. There was no militant activity at both homes when they were struck, one at night and one during the day. The damage was immense and horrendous, likely thanks to heavy-weight "dumb" bombs that killed children as young as three and four months old who were shredded to pieces, with most of the casualties losing their heads and limbs, crushed by the rubble and experiencing extreme burns.
I studied intelligence analysis and operations and am intimately familiar with the complex targeting science and mechanisms. We are light years away from being able to trust machine learning and algorithms to make intricate and consequential targeting decisions that kill human beings. The pace of bombardment in the early stage of the war makes me confident that there was pressure across the target acquisition chain to produce names & locations quickly and continuously, making the report’s allegations that human analysts merely rubber-stamped “Lavender”-selected targets very credible.
I strongly believe that my family was killed in Gaza as a result of AI-generated targeting that was fed faulty intelligence and erroneously honed in on my childhood homes due to random attributes that were flagged by machines - that is the only reason to explain why the Israeli military would choose to callously kill dozens of people, few of whom were young military-age men.
Using Gaza as a testing field for new warfare “innovations” and technologies is immoral and criminal; these are human beings, not statistics.

Mass killings are always shaped by the technologies of their time.
We are in the era of AI. The result is a chilling combination of fine-grained surveillance deployed to justify massive blast zones.
A single fighter becomes the excuse to knowingly kill hundreds.
Read it.

Catastrophic floods have absolutely devastated Central Greece.
Zagora, Greece received 30 inches of rain in one day. That’s more rain than London typically sees in a year.

#dkgreen #dkpol

As almost every day has shattered previous records, this NH summer/SH winter is the hottest in observational history.
And likely the hottest in over 100,000 years, since the Eemian warm period (interglacial), when the global sea level was 5-10 meters higher.

How can #CitizensAssemblies help mobilize people around climate politics? In short, more attention must be given to the links between assemblies and civil society.
