That’s another Β£1 billion for DEVELOPERS. On top of public funding for "Your First Home". @andyburnham This budget is increasingly looking like an early Xmas present for housebuilders who have failed to meet their building safety remediation targets.
πŸ’° An extra Β£1 billion for the social and affordable homes programme to boost council housebuilding - that’s worth 10,000 homes ish πŸ’° Plans to make it easier for councils to borrow A signal of intent which will make a difference - but - remember, the total Β£40 billion social and affordable homes programme (SAHP) is spread out over 10 years so there’s around Β£30 billion still to come at an unspecified date….that won’t huge number of homes in the short term

@AngelaRayner @andyburnham you talk about cost of living, here’s something you can do to help millions of shared ownership victims… why are we subject to above RPI rent increases? @MartinSLewis

Your regular reminder that, if you’re a shared owner, you have no option to challenge the rent increases you’re required to pay. Your rent will continue to rise above RPI every year.

Calum can't sell his flat. An offer Β£75k below what he paid fell through. Cladding issues and high service charges are factors. This is the human cost of the building safety crisis. Lives on hold. Choices taken away. Will Labour get a grip or keep kicking the can down the road?

It appears there is a new national sales campaign for leasehold retirement park homes. Please don’t go near these schemes, I guarantee you will regret it.

Same trap here, with the added curse of shared ownership. Service charge was Β£6k last year - with no amenities. Remediated or not, these 1-bed flats will remain unsellable as @mtpennycook continues to fund newbuilds marketed with underestimated first-year service charges of Β£2k.

Many buildings weren't built correctly in the first place. Why are any innocent leaseholders paying for any historic fire safety defects? The latest Bill proposed by @AngelaRayner and @mhclg doesn't go far enough to help #endourcladdingscandal. πŸ‘‡πŸΌ @LBC interview with @AliMirajUK

Hope residents are OK. But no surprise we have a toxic low quality house building industry - light years behind automotive and aeronautical. Politically @UKLabour to get an urgent grip. Cladding, Building Safety , Remediation & Fleecehold. Where’s @AngelaRayner? @FreeLeasehlders

Very worrying. And it’s not the first time blocks of flats have had to be decanted due to structural safety concerns. The building safety crisis is about far more than cladding and fire safety. @TomCopley, how many Londoners are affected?

Flat blocks are capitulating, but @mtpennycook @AngelaRayner and @andyburnham are too busy rewarding the developer mafia with taxpayer bungs via Help to Buy 2.0, rather than prioritising building safety. No doubt that remediation costs will be abdicated to leaseholders.

Everyone with a leasehold debt trap should state in your will that you leave your property to "The Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury" (the formal legal entity for the UK Treasury). No one wants to leave this mess to a relative right ?

The housing association behind this is @Housing21, a member of @natfednews and signatory to the so-called "Shared Ownership Code" - an industry "label" to stick on marketing brochures. My housing association has also signed up to this "Code", so they’re in good company. #avoid
