What a wholesome day with the family receiving a BEM for the vaccine confidence work I was involved with during the pandemic. I’m a British Bangladeshi working class doctor who works in predominantly British Bangladeshi and/or working class communities. My work fundamentally was based on representation. Going forward we must continue to move towards a medical workforce that reflects the population we serve. Dr Jahangir Alom BEM

This is my mum’s older brother. In divisive times such as these, his story and the story of so many others reminds us that this country and its people are so much greater than the hyenas constantly talking it down. Love you, Maamoojaan. ❤️
World-leading cardiac surgeon Asif Hasan was surrounded by the children who received the gift of life thanks to his unerring skills at the emotional climax of another memorable Pride of Britain ceremony. 🥹 Now 70 years old, Mr Hasan has just retired after 35 years of service at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, but just after receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award, he had an extra special surprise: a cast of patients who would not be alive without him. ❤️

Thank you to the two @Cambridge_Uni medical students who saved my step-brother's life. He was running with girlfriend on Midsummer Common and his heart stopped for 14 minutes. They didn't give up on him, kept him alive til paramedics arrived. He is on the mend and should make a full recovery

And not a single idea for the NHS…no surprise. We are saturated with new ideas in the NHS. How about we accept these ideas haven’t worked before and won’t work this time. Instead Burnham has a real opportunity to launch a commitment to getting the basics right in the NHS - patients want to be seen promptly and safely, staff want a workplace that treats them well and allows them to do their jobs properly. @andyburnham first 100 days, a commitment to getting the basics right please. Every NHS organisation, patient advocacy group and health charity will be behind you.
20 ideas for Andy Burnham’s 100 days – policy experts on how the next PM can turn the UK around. 1. @dc_lawrence on why all the UK’s biggest cities should have Crossrails. arguably.uk/p/20-ideas-for-a…

Set a treadmill at 21kph ( max most will go to) and try to run for 30 seconds on it. That's what he did for 1 hour, 59 minutes and 30 seconds. The peak of human physical achievement. Insane, absolutely insane.
A moment we thought we would never see 🤯 Sabastian Sawe has become the first person to run a marathon in under two hours in race conditions.

I’m afraid we are reaching the final resort…mandating childhood vaccines.
A large measles outbreak, mostly affecting unvaccinated children, has been confirmed in north east London, with some needing to be admitted to hospital. The outbreak has prompted renewed calls to boost uptake of childhood immunisations bmj.com/content/392/bmj.s316…

NHS winter preparedness 26/27 should start now: - overhaul of the seasonal vaccines strategy - abolish corridor care - a single corridor patient should be a major incident next winter - mandatory isolation leave for respiratory infections and point of care testing for FLU, COVID, RSV - protect elective care plan - expand SDEC/ ambulatory medicine to the community

Recently, I’ve been asked to do some media on “super flu.” My two pence on this is: 1. There isn’t any data to suggest this is more virulent (doesn’t make you more sick than last years flu) 2. Nor have I seen any data to suggest it is more contagious than last year (please share data in the comments if I’m wrong on points 1 & 2) 3. If we continue to have lower rates of seasonal vaccine uptake more at risk people will have poor immunity against future strains 4. “Super flu” is misleading and scaremongering. For god’s sake leave science communication to the experts 4. It seems we learnt nothing from the pandemic. The UK is sub optimal at predicting and preparing for flu each and every year

Your annual reminder - charging people fees for medical school application prep and speciality interview courses is not entrepreneurship. It’s extortion.

The Chancellor has just implemented both parts of our plan - set out with former PM, Gordon Brown - to reduce child poverty. A tax on gambling to scrap the two child limit. Very proud of our work @IPPR
"You cannot have a situation where, under a Labour government, child poverty numbers just go up and up and up" says @GordonBrown. 🎲 Our proposal to tax gambling companies to pay to cut the two-child limit is "surely the right thing to do" says the former PM and chancellor.
