Then we are going to build clubs off the group, nationwide, then we are going to build businesses, then we are going to enter politics together, then we are going to make the change we want. But I don’t care about the number right now. I care about who we start with. I want people who are ready to show up, hold themselves accountable, hold each other accountable, and actually do the work. I am a mother of 3, I suffered PPD with 1 and also home birthed all 3 and breastfed till 2. I do not sleep train, I have never taken psychiatrics. This is not a simple conversation but we can distill a few simple facts: After birth, a considerable percentage of women experience Post-Partum Disorder. This can be prompted by: Stress Lack of support Lack of familial bonds Birth trauma C-Sections and failure to bond Nursing issues Modern healthcare Medical interventions before, during and after birth Lack of nutrients and deficiencies Environment Economic hardship Psychiatric interventions, SSRIs etc. Pre-mental health issues Some of these things can be addressed by maintaining strong family connections and community support, considering current societal breakdowns and lack of cultural bonds and how to heal them. Some of these things can be addressed by looking at our modern healthcare system and considering the cascade of medical interventions starting before birth that lead to PPD. C-Sections interrupting hormone exchange, psychiatrics, weaning too early, medicalized birth, nutrient deficiency's for the mother, imbalanced gut in the baby leading to colic and distress etc. This does not discount the fact that no matter your circumstances, mental issues or psychosis - YOU SHOULD NOT KILL YOU CHILD. If you do succumb to that urge, no matter the reason, you should suffer the consequences bestowed upon you for your grave sin. That is not, and will never be, acceptable in our society and should not be condoned or sympathized with. But we cannot discount that there is something very wrong with our society, our culture, that leads new mothers to betray their basic biology to murder the children they should view as the sole purpose their instincts are built to protect. When I experience PPD I didn't realize that's what it was until years later. I was a single mom and had two young children and was having a lot of stress and due to family circumstances at the time I felt trapped and helpless. I just thought it was normal and didn't realize I had experienced something considered severe until I was in a much better mental state and situation. So the questions still are: Is it pharma? Societal breakdown? Modern American healthcare? Emotional distoria? Anyone not curious at the deeper questions are in denial and we should all be asking these questions and demanding answers for how we got here.
