Now there were a number of issues with the day to day operation of the ANS, especially it's financial situation, but from the Art Museum to World Cafe to now this, every cultural institution in this city seems to have picked up leaders with their heads in their ass simultaneously
What went wrong at the Academy of Natural Sciences? From years of financial trouble to leadership missteps and a messy breakup with Drexel, here’s how Philly’s beloved dinosaur museum got here. phillymag.com/news/2026/10/2…

Philadelphia’s issues are actually the fault of a reactionary dem establishment and not at all the fault of leftists, in fairness. I say this as someone who has little love for the left. This is just completely unserious lol
Replying to @bobbyfijan
If you removed the Leftism and DEI rot from Philadelphia it would be unstoppable. It has every single aspect ready to make it the greatest city in America after NYC, and imo much more liveable than any other city.

South Broad zoning is horrendous, and needing to scrape and claw to get apartment buildings built on top of one of our two heavy rail systems in a city of 1.6 million people really needs to change!
A new apartment building proposed for South Broad Street is shorter, and smaller, than might be expected (the property is within walking distance of two subway stops). It also has one parking spot for every two apartments: inquirer.com/real-estate/hou…

Forget not even being able to build medium/large apartment buildings, you can’t do anything besides SFHs on Broad itself. So bad! Someone should tell City Council that we’re one of a handful of cities with a subway in this well located!

The South Philly star is rising in a big way and on both sides of Broad. What are the responses gonna be from the representatives of districts 1 & 2?
This is one of the last large developable surface parking lots along South Broad. Housing prices have gone up 27% over the past 7 years, while rents have increased 40%. Pretty soon the easily developable sites will be gone, as will the new construction release valve.

Oh my god it’s real
Remember the time a transit community engagement consultant wrote an article about visiting Amsterdam to see how they built transit infrastructure and was shocked and offended that they didn’t do “community engagement”?

Something that Philly has that neither New York or Boston can boast
Having a train that takes you directly to the airport is genuinely one of the top 10 things a city can offer. No expensive taxis, no sitting in traffic, no begging someone to drop you off. Just get on the train and arrive at the airport. Every major city should have this.

What people don’t understand about Philly’s “grit” is that it’s a SUBSTITUTE for the things that make other cities thrive. We don’t have the richest people, or the smartest, or the luckiest, or the most talented. Grit is what helps close the gap, but you’re better off with the wealth that makes a New York thrive; the talent that makes an SF thrive; the brains that make Boston what it is; the happenstance that brought the nation’s capital to a swamp on the banks of the Potomac. We fetishize the city’s tough mentality so much we forget it comes from destitution, not prosperity, and we should be striving for the latter, not constantly reminding ourselves about the former.
Harsh reality: Philadelphia needs to stop romanticizing grit and start building for growth. Support businesses. Invest in startups. Cut the red tape. Aggressively recruit and retain young talent. Grit is part of Philly’s identity. It can’t be the entire economic strategy.

René Livas estimates replacing Philly's wage tax with a land value tax would bring 26-78k jobs back from the burbs. We'd get similar boosts from replacing BIRT and the building portion of the property tax with LVT. This and other things Philly needs will be in @5thSq's platform
Legitimately, what is the answer here? Philadelphia is a city with incredible heritage, placed smack dab in the center of the universe, with a big collegiate population, low cost of living, and strong suburbs. It’s getting lapped by Pittsburgh, Boston, Austin, Tampa, Nashville. Why?

Another Philadelphia Housing Authority related development is in the works in North Philly, continuing the public agency's building spree even as the rest of the real estate industry slows to a crawl: inquirer.com/real-estate/com…

Hell yeah brother
As time goes on parking will become impossible all throughout Philadelphia unless you have the money to pay for it. Expensive parking lots are your only option. Or moving your car every two hours. Including throughout the night That is the new normal - that is your future.

The secret to having ease of parking is really just living on one of the narrow south Philly blocks - I have not once had an issue finding a legal spot

Turn the Key is one of the best things happening in the 5th Council District - 20 more homes were approved and permitted yesterday in North Philadelphia, all replacing blighted, vacant, and/or fenced off lots. An indisputable success!

The Washington Avenue Connector project is officially here! The 14-foot-wide multi-use trail brings in a safer biking and walking experience for our residents -- improving the South Philly road’s traffic safety, accessibility, and quality for all who use it. I’m thrilled to see this improvement in our city and want to see more innovative, collaborative projects like this one to improve accessibility and safety on our streets!
