That's funny because at my last strategy meeting with my accountant, they informed me I must use HMRC-recognised Making Tax Digital compatible software, creating an oligopoly for firms like Xero.
I must now also report my company's income every three months rather than once a year, as well as a final report at year end.
So I now have to pay for a Xero subscription.
And pay my accountant more for the increased submissions.
And fuck about with reconciling every three months, rather than once a year.
For HMRC to end up with the same amount of income from me as before.
Fuck off.
Just fuck off.
Fuck off all the way back to Yorkshire, then fuck off some more.
Considering my pub’s rateable value was changed from £18.5k to £73.5k by @UKLabour last year we’re a long way from this being of any benefit whatsoever!!
God know who this will actually help.

🚨 Labour came to power warning of a £22bn black hole.
Since then they have:
❌ Put taxes up by around £70bn
❌ Borrowed another £310bn
And now, after taking more of your money AND borrowing hundreds of billions more…
…there is apparently another £35bn black hole.
At what point do we admit the problem isn’t that Government doesn’t have enough money?
It’s that Government cannot control its spending.
You cannot tax your way to growth.
You cannot borrow your way out of overspending.
And taxpayers cannot keep being handed the bill.
Enough.
I wonder how many people will be thrilled to receive an Oasis code before realising it’s not to the email address connected to their TM account?
They made it clear but I reckon a lot will still have applied with different ones.

The cat is out of the bag.
800+ hotels, pubs and restaurants. Some of the biggest names in British hospitality. All the trade bodies. All saying the same thing. Cut VAT in line with Europe. 20% VAT is holding British hospitality back.
@AndyBurnham has previously backed VAT in line with Europe. Now he has the opportunity to deliver it.
This isn’t about a handout. It’s about giving hospitality the tax environment to grow, employ and invest.

The Government can’t have its cake and eat it.
You cannot point to Europe to justify a new tourism tax while conveniently ignoring how Europe taxes hospitality.
A tourism tax of up to 5% on top of 20% VAT means the headline tax burden could effectively reach 25%.
Yes Europe has tourism taxes, but Europe also recognises the economic value of hospitality and tourism with substantially lower VAT rates.
If we want European-style tourism taxes then give us European-style VAT.
Stop picking the bits of Europe that raise taxes while ignoring the bits that help hospitality grow.

When they claim a hospitality VAT cut would cost £10bn+, they gaslight us. They leave out extra corp tax, PAYE & NI from businesses turning a profit and/or staying open & the jobs, investment and growth that would follow. They count the cost and pretend the upside doesn’t exist!
