You nailed it the first time--who is this for? What problem does it solve? Why do I need to spend $300 on it?
None of those questions were answered.
Fire the art director. feels like it’s trying way tooo hard to move away from the trad nuclear family. There’s almost a psyop quality or rage bait quality to how it portrays the modern family and normalizes its disappearance. “We're all going insane so here use this, to help you manage the mental illness.” This is the family that has Netflix playing in the background while pops, homewife, and kids doomscroll, schizo-pausing and rewinding, with 20 titles sitting at 50% completion. I can imagine the younger art directors at Apple having Codex extensively research the modern family and its dysfunctional relationship with tech, then cramming the eureka moment and every observation into this. Good thing is people are talking about it at least
The awful commercial is taking too much attention from how bad the shape and size is.
Vid calls, security/baby monitoring, photo slide shows, watching things while cooking and cleaning… all inferior right out the gate to mediocre competition.
The actors all leaning in and taking their glasses off to read it should have been a sign.
Hardware rethink needed and Apple should buy or poach the Skylight Calendar company team.
ok hear me out, apple knew exactly what they were doing with this negative take. the first reason I think is that it works great for social media. they didnt have a iPhone level presentation to capture attention so they needed to game the algorithm. the second reason is reaction videos like this, more engagement. this is going to be a flash in the pan and when the next thing comes out everyone will forget. finally, 10/31 is Halloween in the US, so kind of a reach here, but this negativity matches the spooky vibe around this time as if its the "horror film" version of an apple release ad.
Would love you to find a way to interview @gregjoz and ask what in the world Apple was thinking and how this ad got approved?? Steve would've fired the people that produced this ad immediately.
