Our first campaign ad is out! 🚁 Army helicopter pilot, combat veteran, former General Assembly member, and NASA alum John Loughlin is taking on Rhode Island’s sky-high energy bills. From the cockpit he sees a spectacular state. On the ground, one-party politics and government rules are driving some of the highest electric costs in the country. His plan: base rates on real costs—and cut bills in half. Watch the ad and see why common sense starts with lower energy costs. #Loughlin4RI #LowerEnergyBills

Data is absolutely clear on this, there's scarcely an issue that economists agree on to the extent they agree on rent control, "the fastest way to destroy a city, save for bombing". Here is summary of the literature on rent control: (-) indicates papers finding a negative effect, (0) no effect, and (+) a positive effect. Rent control is good only for lowering rent in rent-controlled units (who would have guessed?) and bad for everything else.

Truth & Consequences: Navigating the 2026 House Legislative Session, A Rhode House Minority Report - RI Housing Affordability Despite years of public spending and voter-approved housing bonds, Rhode Island remains one of the least affordable states to rent, buy or raise a family. Bottom Line: Housing costs determine whether families stay, businesses can hire, and the next generation can afford to build a life in Rhode Island. From 2006- 2021, Rhode Island voters approved more than $165M in Housing Bonds. Those funds helped create and rehabilitate ONLY 4,007 state-funded affordable homes in 15 years. Check out the third chapter in our report, focused on Rhode Island Housing Affordability, below. Replace "California" with "Rhode Island" in this tweet and it is 99% accurate.
I am about to say something marginally political. Brace yourselves. 😎 I am a native Californian and a political independent. Here in California we have a Democrat governor, a Democrat super majority in the state legislature, and every major city has a Democrat mayor. And every election cycle every single poll reveals a majority of voters think the state is heading in the wrong direction. And yet we keep putting Democrats in office. California’s problems are all about policy. Period. You can’t blame “the other guy“ for the absolute horror that exists in our metro areas, or a budget that has collapsed due to the unrestrained funding of undocumented immigrants. It is the Dems fault and they need to own it. And perhaps we need to give someone else a shot at this. Just saying.

The lighting at Crossroads came up in last night's debate. RINewsToday broke that story back in early 2025 - we've asked the question if more lights are planned in their new buildings - crickets. But $685K for decorative lighting...remains...and even turns colors. We've asked for the homeless plan for this winter. More crickets. rinewstoday.com/homeless-in-…

I sat my 7-year-old down and explained to him that dying industries (legacy media, academia, DNC politics) ride algorithmically driven cultural hysterias both because it’s the only way they can stay relevant and because their business models demand it. He looked up at me and with a tear in his eyes asked, ‘so, for the sake of the journos, the assistant professors, and Dem Politics Inc, we’re obligated to attest to the moral urgency of the hysteria and act completely emotionally dysregulated?’ ‘Yes,’ I answered him. ‘Yes, that’s right.’ And then we both sat quietly.

Leader Michael Chippendale @MikeWChip and @taragranahan1 discuss the newly released House Minority Caucus report on the 2026 Legislative Session: Truth & Consequences. "Be wary of the Majority touting 'record investments' as an accomplishment. In looking back at the state monies allocated --for example, in housing, education, and infrastructure, we are not realizing a substantive return on those huge investments. Here is the translation for 'record investments' – record spending." LISTEN TO THIS IMPORTANT CONVERSATION HERE: youtube.com/watch?v=_Wn_CLxL…

A DSA type radical Democrat is running for council in my town and had an "ice cream meet and greet" tonight where he advertised he would be *checking ID* to make sure you lived in town before getting your free ice cream coupon. Yet voter ID is a bridge too far.

@LoughlinRI1 is talking about REDUCING energy bills and @Sabina_Matos is justifying an INCREASE. They are speaking two different languages. The truth is that the electorate can’t tolerate the expense of our energy policy. @LoughlinRI1 understands that and is promoting policy that is rooted in reality. He knows that energy policy, above all else, must bring prices down. Matos, on the other hand, is doubling down on an economically crippling policy that is rooted in unrealistic expectations and places the burden directly on every family in Rhode Island. We deserve leadership that is smart, pragmatic and understands the impact that policy has on all of us. It’s time to get @LoughlinRI1 elected.

2017: Austin spent $35 million on homelessness. 2,036 homeless counted. 2025: $118 million. 3,238 homeless. Spending more than tripled and homelessness went up 59%. If you service the homeless lifestyle, you will get more of it. The NGOs that run this system get paid by the problem of homelessness, so they have no reason to end it -- in fact, their only incentive is to make sure the problem grows.
Elon Musk
@elonmuskSep 25
The NGOs end up increasing the number of homeless people they manage, because that’s the only way to increase their revenue! Incentives drive outcomes. “Homeless” is a propaganda word used to describe people on the street who are mentally ill or severely addicted to drugs. The word implies that this is someone who fell a little behind on their mortgage payment and they’re one job offer away from getting back on their feet, which is obviously false if you’ve ever tried talking to a “homeless” person in SF, LA, NY, Austin or anywhere else. The honest reality is that we need to bring back asylums for extreme mental illness or drug addiction for those who are a serious danger to themselves or others.
