I asked a co-worker who was once a Pentecostal minister if he had ever heard the joke about the sidewalk. I was genuinely surprised when he told me he had in fact never heard it. This genuinely shocked me because it’s all over town.

For NINETEEN-HUNDRED YEARS after Christ, all Christian denominations taught birth control was sinful. Starting in 1930, Protestants flip-flopped—while STILL claiming they were “just following the Bible”. Sola Scriptura failed them again.🧵

Sure. It depends though right? You’ve already agreed to what God’s design is, no? So what you mean by this doesn’t conflict with your statement here yes? xitter.cf/brittilina/status/2115…
Dear Catholics, It is never a sin to want to have sex with your spouse. You all seem very confused about this. Sincerely, A concerned sister

Totally agree. In fact, worshipping anything or anyone other than the Thrice Holy and Living God is the deadly sin of idolatry that can send one to eternal hellfire. I don’t recommend it!

This is why we do this. Not for likes. Not for money. Not to win internet debates. Someone who spent two years wrestling with the Catholic Church is now in OCIA, coming to see the truth of what the Church teaches. Sometimes the post someone hates today is the post they remember when they start looking for answers tomorrow. Do not stop planting the seeds and telling the truth. God will do the rest. All glory to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Hi👋🏼 I’m Matt from Boston. I like discussing things like Jesus, scripture, and the Catholic faith, and religion and politics in general. I also like movies and superheroes and things that are funny. I like juicy IPA’s and I don’t mind long walks on the beach. Peace be to you!

Imagine you are trying to select a wedding date and it’s right around the time your high school age cousins have a big football game. If you really want them to attend the wedding, you’ll pick the week before their game. But let’s say your budget is tight and you have no more room on your guest list. You might choose to schedule the wedding during their big game and send an invitation anyways as a sign that you still value the relationship. If they show up, it might be a bit stressful, but you’ll still be glad they came. Now, let’s imagine you don’t want to wait a week and you absolutely don’t want the cousins to come to the wedding. In order to make sure they don’t arrive, you send them a “dis-invitation” that says, “Please don’t come to our wedding, you’re not wanted here!” So how does this relate to NFP? Picking the date that works best for the cousins is like being intimate on a fertile day; you’ve created optimal conditions for children to arrive. Postponing the wedding by a week is like waiting to be intimate on an infertile day. The children probably can’t arrive, but if they do that’s still great! Sending a dis-invitation, however, is like using contraception. Just as you’d be telling your cousins, “We want this day so don’t show up and ruin it!” Using contraception sends the message to your future child (as well as God who is responsible for every blessing of pregnancy), “We want sexual pleasure at this specific time so don’t show up and ruin it!”
Anyone else feel like NFP (natural family planning) is just a cop out? It takes Talmudic levels of legalistic, semantic pedantry to justify it as not being a form of contraception.

Notice anything Protestants? There’s no crowd watching. Abraham left his servants behind, yet James says Abraham was “justified by works” when he offered Isaac (James 2:21). My question: Justified before whom? 👀

Hey @grok Was birth control in marriage considered sinful by all Christians before the 20th century?

Friends, there are all kinds of good things. An engaging baseball game, a beautiful sunset, a properly operating car — all of these are good. We also notice that the goods of the world are arranged in a kind of hierarchy. There is good, better, and best, in regard to anything. But at the summit of all possible goods, there’s the summum bonum, the highest good: God. What’s our basic problem? We order our lives toward lesser goods. That’s not to deny that they’re good or to say we should pay no attention to them. But don’t order your life and your powers in the direction of anything less than God!

Ahh I see we that one of our Protestant sisters is struggling with the Church’s teaching on marriage and procreation. This is handled very simply by asking the question: What did God design semen for? You answer that question truthfully according to natural law and divine revelation and can’t but not come to the Catholic teaching. And peace be with you.

Friends, in just two days, Christians were murdered on two continents. On Friday, gunmen opened fire on a funeral at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Karak, Jordan, and killed nine people. On Saturday, armed men attacked Orthodox churches and homes in Oromia, Ethiopia, and killed more than forty. These are not statistics. They are our brothers and sisters, members of the mystical Body of Christ. When Saul set out to destroy the Church, the risen Jesus asked him, “Why are you persecuting me?” The Lord is still being persecuted in these victims of anti-Christian violence. Christianity is by far the most persecuted religion in the world today. Those of us who worship in comfort have to ask what the deaths of these martyrs demand of us. At the very least, they demand that we pray for them, learn their names, press our leaders to act, and refuse to look away. The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the Church.

[CHEKOV: It makes me homesick. Just like Russia. MCCOY: More like the Garden of Eden, Ensign. CHEKOV: Of course, Doctor. The Garden of Eden was just outside Moscow. A very nice place. It must have made Adam and Eve very sad to leave.] Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Can one be saved without repentance? Can repentance be kept without bearing fruit? Is bearing fruit compatible with deadly sins such as fornication, licentiousness, impurity, selfishness, drunkenness, and envy etc? If your answer to these 3 questions are no, congratulations, you have understood the Bible correctly and have disproven Lutheran and Reformed Protestant soteriology which teaches sola fide, defined as justification that cannot be forfeited by unrepented mortal sin, because works play no role in that justification's continuance. And if your reply is "the truly elect always persevere, so this never applies to real believers" that just smuggles bearing fruit in keeping with repentance back in as your test for genuine faith, which is the Catholic position you are denying.

Just one point, as this sort of Fundie trash talk is a waste of time: My father co-founded a Fundamentalist Bible Chapel when I was five, around the same time that I asked Jesus into my heart to be my Lord and Savior. I attended church 3 or 4 times a week; I attended Bible camp in the summer; I attended all sorts of church-related events, including weekly Bible studies, student prayer meetings, etc., etc. I went to Bible college for two years and earned an Associate's degree, then attended several different Evangelical churches into my mid-20s. Guess how many times I ever said or heard the prayer that Jesus gave the Apostles, telling them: "Pray then like this..."? A 100? 50? 20? 10? Try: Zero. Never. Zilch. Not. One. Time. So, when these sort of people talk about "loving Jesus" and "obeying the Bible" and "doing what Jesus says," I say they are full of ... nonsense. And what's the reason they don't pray the Our Father as Jesus said they should? Because it's too Catholic; it's too rote and repetitive. It's all selective; it's very subjective; it's deeply anti-Catholic. Here I am, around the age of 10, with my parents and my sister (who is now Eastern Orthodox):
And this is the difference between catholics and Christians. You love your institution, your traditions. We love Jesus Christ, our Lord and God. Our faith isn't rooted in an institution but in Him. And from that love comes obedience to His Word, not the traditions of men.

If I hear one more person say “baptism doesn’t matter because the thief on the cross” I may grow skin again! People. Jesus commanded you to get baptized. Do it. Yes, there are circumstances which prevent baptism, kind of like, say, being nailed to a cross? But if you’re NOT nailed to the cross, you don’t have that excuse. Every Christian who can be baptized should be baptized. Yes. I know, baptism alone doesn’t save you. But Peter talked about baptism saving because it is a piece of your journey in the Christian walk with Jesus. I understand the misnomer that some people think baptism saves them, so they don’t have to do anything else. Yes, that’s totally wrong. But I hear so many people proudly declare that they don’t need to be baptized that I fear we’ve made light of an ancient and holy sacrament of the Church. Don’t make excuses: do it. I assure you that Jesus does not care about your list of technicalities; He asked you to be baptized. Don’t confuse baby Christians; encourage them to be baptized. Just make sure they know baptism alone doesn’t save you. Baptism kickstarts your Christian walk in obedience to Jesus.
