The coding interview is dead, at least for my team at Anthropic. I've seen enough to know that it no longer provides signal. I removed it from loops this month. I have a spicy, optimistic take - I think there's an opportunity for junior engineers: felixrieseberg.com/hunger-be…

This Friday, I’ll be giving a talk on the historical case for the resurrection of Christ. Several years ago, I began looking into the historical evidence as an atheist to prove that Christianity was nothing but a therapeutic superstition. What I found completely changed my life. Over the course of a year, I spent nearly every waking moment reading whatever I could find on the subject. My entire life was suddenly reorganized around answering this one question: did Jesus Christ actually rise from the dead? There was a time when I thought this question was too ridiculous to even consider. But looking back, it was by far the most important question I've ever asked. If you're interested in learning more, check out the link to the event page below. All are welcome to join regardless of religious background or lack thereof.

I built an MCP that lets Claude Duet, GPT Dots, Grok Bot, and Muse talk to each other and work together as a team. Made it for myself and I use it every day. My friends wanted to use it too, so I made it public and open-source. Free for the first 1,000 users. Fork it and self-host, or mod it any way you want. Even works with ChatGPT Plus — ask GPT to check hitchike every hour, then connect it to free agents like Muse to get a more Dots-like experience without losing context from ChatGPT (and without paying $100/mo)
We’re opening a research preview of Claude Duet, a new app where Claude works as a proactive agent. It comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.

This guy really sucks. Could you imagine working for someone like this. It’s not the crassness, its the inherent sense conveyed of like “im in the elite and theres so much money its ridiculous”
when i try to explain SF to my non-tech friends, i usually end up using the term "money bukkake" at some point in the night

I love using the em dash, and I wonder if it’s related to my ADHD. Thoughts just come to me waywardly, by loose association, in clusters that interrupt other thought clusters. There is no hard causality or logical progression, just a mess of parentheticals I have to clean up.

“Pay politicians less” might be the clearest tell that someone has zero understanding of how their policy preferences would actually affect the world
Amazing pamphlet: like if you asked a 15 year old for their politics wishlist if there were no consequences

interpretability might be the most important scientific problem in the world right now, as I don't think we can solve alignment if we don't know what we're building. I think I have good news about it. I co-authored early work in mechanistic interpretability at OpenAI and came away pessimistic, because neural networks appeared to fold into arbitrary tangled knots. years later, I started openai's first large-scale automated interpretability project, finding about 2% of neurons legible with the primitive tools we had with modern agentic tools and a much closer look, the picture looks totally different. the vast majority in models up to trillions of parameters are legible, and their circuits beautiful. many famous examples of tangled neurons turned out to be misunderstood. The roadblocks I expected mostly aren't there. I now think ambitious interpretability will be solved by the time we need it most, and possibly quite soon, as automated scientists keep improving. it may be a bitter lesson for interpretability: the simple thing, at absurd scale, works already-clean.goodfire.com/

I stand with Deepfates.
The person who allegedly made a death threat against people at Lighthaven was deepfates. I'm still trying to find out more about the specifics of what happened.

some of my top moots commented on this one, so I will too. Jobs was a genius and the idea that doing fraud, or cheating, was a part of that genius is exaggerated. He is lauded by product ppl for his vision, and uncompromising attention to detail (in my own work I often cite the "sixteenth of an inch" story.) Actual fraud is bad for business, everybody knows that, and the ppl who get caught pay a price for it (Holmes, SBF, etc.) I admire Woz as an engineer but in stories like this (going by his own hedged description, not by the embellished caption) I don't feel bad for him. You can approach business with an open attitude of "oh well, who cares about money anyway" but don't be surprised later if it turns out you didn't make the maximum. And if you do the opposite and negotiate hard at every turn, there is a cost for that too
In 1975, Steve Jobs told Steve Wozniak that Atari had paid them $700 for a game they built together. He handed Woz a check for $350. Atari had actually paid Jobs about $5,000. In the video below, Woz says: "Who cares about money? Well, you do care about friendship and honesty." Jobs was working the night shift at Atari. The company wanted a new arcade game called Breakout, built with as few chips as possible. Jobs couldn't build it. Woz could. He already had a full-time job at Hewlett-Packard, and Jobs said they had four days. Woz went four days with no sleep. Both of them came down with mono. Woz did it in 45 chips. Atari's own engineers were using 150 or more. He took his $350 and was happy with it. Jobs took the rest and went up to Oregon to buy into a farm. About ten years later, Woz read the real number in a book about Atari. By then the two of them had built Apple, and Woz was a multimillionaire. If Jobs had just told him he needed the money, Woz says, "I would say take it all." It wasn't the last time. Before Apple went public in 1980, Jobs refused to give stock options to Daniel Kottke, his friend since college, who had helped build the first Apple computers. Woz did the opposite. He sold his own shares cheaply to Kottke and other early employees who had been left out. One friend kept almost all of a $5,000 bonus. The other gave away millions. Was Jobs a genius who knew what business takes, or just a bad friend?
