Not only was Badenoch flaunting her relationship with Vance the day I left, Griffith and Hollinrake were soliciting donations from Elon Musk. Utterly insane. And Cameron is drumming up money for this disgrace of an iteration that bears no resemblance to the party he lead 10 years ago. It is totally unacceptable and they are headed for another rout not recovery. At every electoral opportunity voters say no. Get rid of Badenoch or go down (again).

Charles and Emily Oxley and their seven children, their faces as they were at the time of their mother's death in 1898, a memorial in Ripon Cathedral. The inscription was added to as each died, the last of them Dorothy, who died in 1990 at the age of 100.

86 years ago this week, the captain who saved Titanic's survivors died. Yet many have never heard his name.
Captain Arthur Rostron was in command of the Carpathia when the call came in that the Titanic was sinking. She was an ordinary passenger liner, built for a top speed of about 14 knots. He turned her round immediately, before the call was even confirmed.
Then he got to work. He shut off the heating so every bit of steam went to the engines, and pushed that old ship past 17 knots through an ice field in the dark. While she raced on, his crew got blankets, doctors and slings ready.
His was the only ship to reach the survivors, and he took about 705 of them aboard.
For his actions, he was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal, and the US Senate inquiry called his preparations "a marvel".
That's the man I'd want in charge when everything goes wrong: he acts at once, and he plans before he arrives. It must have taken a cool head and a ton of courage.
So let's raise a glass to Captain Arthur Rostron, a real hero and a true gentleman. 🥂

Give Iran is a big factor in Trump’s electoral humiliation it’s worth recalling that K Badenoch- the leader much of the UK media is elevating to the status of a titan-was an unqualified supporter. If she had been PM UK would be trapped in the conflict with Trump and Nethanyahu.

BBC CHIEF LORD HALL
It has been apparent for years, that the BBC did not pursue an impartial path, on Brexit.
To compound matters, it has subsequently allowed Farage to appear on BBC programmes, in a totally unbalanced number of times. In fact it has made a mockery of its previous reputation, as a national “treasure” sponsored by the Nation.
NATIONAL DISGRACE, would now be a better description.
And @lisanandy has been a totally ineffective Minister in charge of Media. Indeed one could be forgiven for thinking she didn’t exist.
@andyburnham @cabinetofficeuk @DCMS
After the referendum, the BBC chief Lord Hall ordered the BBC to treat Brexit as a done deal, a decision which all but wholly excluded Remainer opinion from the BBC for over 2 years, thus grossly biasing the debate. It was a grotesque abuse of democracy.

Brexit was won by the worst abuses of democracy in modern British history. This was just one of them.

#R4today The media seems to think that we have forgotten about this and we have moved on. We haven’t. Covid made huge differences to the population of the UK and the way Johnson handled it should be properly scrutinised
This should be front-page news across every media outlet, but we’re in 2026.
In 2026, we have become immune to scandal and inured to disaster.
A story that should shame our nation due to the sheer scale of corruption and incompetence barely makes a dent in the national narrative.
Nigel Farage said something about immigration again — is all we get now.
Truly important stories like this are being suppressed by the shift to TikTok and 𝕏 as news outlets.
The algorithm makes the news, not the story.

A reflection on the athlete and person she was:

This painting is called Stay.
And once you notice what is really happening in it, you’ll realize it’s a word almost all of us have wanted to say to someone, at least once, when it was already too late…
A girl in a pink dress reaches out toward a man standing beside her, but he is no longer quite there: his body has turned to glass, so clear you can see the sky right through him. Look closely and you’ll find small yellow flowers and flecks of color still caught inside him, as if he were made of memories, while his face has almost dissolved, and behind them the sky turns into something closer to a dream.
It was painted in 2022 by Reynier Llanes, an artist born in Pinar del Río, in Cuba, who moved to the United States in 2007, and anyone who has ever lost someone will recognize the gesture at its heart instantly: the hand stretched out a little too late, toward a person who is disappearing while you are still looking at them.
Llanes often gives invisible feelings a visible shape, and here grief and longing take the form of someone slowly fading away. He never tells us who the man is: he might be a father, a friend, a grandparent, a love that ended, and because we only see the girl from behind, we end up standing exactly where she stands, reaching out toward our own person...
All he gives us is that single word, the one we so often never manage to say in time: stay.
He first showed it in a solo exhibition in Ohio, named after the secret the fox shares in The Little Prince, words that could almost be written beneath this painting: “What is essential is invisible to the eye.”
I started my newsletter because the world is full of beautiful artworks like this one, and so few people ever stop to give them the attention they deserve. Every week I try to. If that is something you'd like to be part of, you can join through the link in my bio!
Thanks for reading.
