Decent work doesn’t happen by accident. It takes workers organising and unions fighting for strong rights. As we mark World Day For Decent Work today, we’re also celebrating 20 years of the Maritime Labour Convention – and the real gains it has delivered for seafarers. The next generation of seafarers deserves decent pay, secure employment, safe workplaces and a voice at work. Read our MLC 20th anniversary report to see what can be achieved and what workers, seafarers, unions and our members are still fighting for. nautilusint.org/news/mlc-20-…

Notwithstanding deserved praise, the hard-working captains who command these tugs are working under an illegal salary discount imposed by management and the canal board. This is how our commitment and sacrifice, the insane working hours are being rewarded by this administration.
Tugboats are among the hardest-working vessels in the Panama Canal. Every day, they assist ships entering and leaving the locks, provide maneuvering support in the Culebra Cut and help position Neopanamax vessels with exceptional precision. Their power, responsiveness and the expertise of their crews are essential to maintaining safe and efficient operations throughout the waterway.
