The alleged witch-hunt against IIT Bombay Professor Suryanarayana Doolla, simply for catching a student using an unauthorized device during an examination, is completely unacceptable. We are deeply saddened by the tragic demise of Sahil Wakode and once again extend our heartfelt condolences to his family. However, we strongly condemn what we believe to be a gross misuse of the SC/ST Act. Team Bharat did a wonderful job today with @ajeetbharti, @tehseenp, and @FactswithDinesh by confronting the most untouchable issue in Indian politics: the rampant misuse of the SC/ST Act. Key takeaway from @tehseenp: 1. Natural justice says: "Innocent until proven guilty". 2. SC/ST Act inverts this to: "Guilty until you prove yourself innocent". Whether it is a common man in a street argument, IIT Bombay Prof. Dr. Dola just doing his job, or Ajeet Bharti sitting right there on the panel as an accused, anyone can be trapped without a shred of preliminary verification. Protection for the vulnerable cannot mean persecution of the innocent. Mandatory Preliminary Enquiry before FIR must be restored immediately!
