Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu has detonated the mother of all bombs. Mandatory DNA tests to determine the paternity of unborn babies? This is like lobbing teargas into maternity wards🤣. But the Luo say “PATERNITY IS A MATTER OF FAITH. MATERNITY IS A MATTER OF FACT.” Now cometh the question of surrogate mothers, fathers and babies! In this age and era a DNA test is no silver bullet! Let the debate begin.

Some evenings you attend an event. Others, you finally meet someone you’ve admired for years! And last evening, at Uganda’s Independence celebrations at the @UgandaUN in New York, I had the pleasure of meeting the man himself, Olara Otunnu! Yes, that @Olara_Otunnu! Diplomat, statesman, former UN Under-Secretary-General, and one of the leading contenders in the current race for United Nations Secretary-General. A remarkable Ugandan diplomatic mind, with the experience, wisdom, and international standing that the @UN can scarcely afford to overlook. I must confess, I tried to maintain my diplomatic composure, but somewhere inside, the little boy in me was doing somersaults! The occasion was Uganda’s Independence celebration at @UgandaUN in New York City. Proceedings began at 6 PM, and before we knew it, it was nearly 10 PM! Four hours of Ugandan warmth, wonderful conversations, familiar faces, and, naturally, no shortage of KB! It was equally delightful catching up with fellow Ugandans, including @RuhakanaR, Ambassador Duncan Muhumuza, Minister Counsellor Celia Nabeta, and the wonderful Uganda Mission team. I was pleased to represent the @utcaorg at this memorable gathering. An evening celebrating our motherland, reconnecting with our people, and appreciating Ugandans who continue to make their mark on the international stage. I went to celebrate Uganda’s Independence. I left having finally met one of my heroes! Not a bad outcome for a Friday evening in New York! Photos: @ Patrick Oyulu @UgandaMediaCent @SHUDiasporaUnit #Uganda #UgandaAtIndependence

""The world you are entering is changing rapidly. In such a world, we need men and women whose minds are renewed, whose character is grounded, and whose lives are committed to transforming others," Dr. Ojangole said. Enough Said.
Today, our Managing Director, Dr. Patricia Ojangole, has encouraged graduates to not let initial disappointments make them passive or resentful, reminding them to adapt an attitude of learning and service. Dr. Ojangole made the clarion call while delivering a commencement speech during the second part of the 27th graduation ceremony of Uganda Christian University (UCU) at the main campus in Mukono. The message was premised on the ceremony's theme; “A Renewed, Transformational Mindset,” drawn from Romans 12:2. “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind," Dr. Ojangole told graduates. She noted that graduation is more than the end of a course, but the beginning of a calling.  "The world you are entering is changing rapidly. In such a world, we need men and women whose minds are renewed, whose character is grounded, and whose lives are committed to transforming others," Dr. Ojangole said. Sharing her own career experience, she recounted starting out in internal audit, a profession that taught her discipline, integrity, curiosity and the courage to ask difficult questions. Each assignment, she said, prepared her for several other responsibilities including her current role as Managing Director of UDB as well as the first female to Chair the Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI).  "Your first opportunity may look small, but treat it with excellence. Purpose is not postponed until you occupy a senior office. Purpose is revealed in how faithfully you use today’s opportunity," she told the graduates.

Uganda’s candidate for the United Nations (UN) secretary general position, Dr Olara Otunnu, and the rest of the candidates to lead the United Nations (UN) received a vote of "discourage," effectively a veto, from a permanent UN Security Council member in the latest informal poll, a diplomat has said. 🗣Olara Otunnu: Some leaders miss spoke that NUP now cannot cross Karuma to come this side (you’re Persona non grata in Acholi). This is un Acholi & un Uganda. There is no question of drawing a red line for NUP. That is nonsense and we can’t accept that. Acholi land is for ALL.

Today (Oct. 22) Catholics celebrate Saint John Paul II, Pope, a fearless apostle of hope, champion of human dignity, and shepherd whose historic pontificate revitalized the Church across the globe. Echoing his iconic invitation to "Open wide the doors to Christ," John Paul II traveled to the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel and inspire millions of young hearts. Entrusting his entire life and ministry to Our Lady under the motto Totus Tuus, he bore witness to the transformative power of Divine Mercy, showing the modern world that faith in Christ overcomes every fear. Saint John Paul II, pray for us!

Today, October 22, we celebrate the feast of Saint John Paul II. The Church chose this date because it marks the day his pontificate began, in 1978. He died 21 years ago, yet his memory lives on in the generations who still remember him for whom he was an enormous gift. He traveled to country after country carrying one message: God’s love is for everyone. And he witnessed to that love until the very last moment — fragile, suffering, and still praying. What a gift it was to live while he walked among us. Saint John Paul II, pray for us.

The Vatican Press Office issued an important statement Wednesday evening on Pope Leo XIVʼs recovery following his Oct. 13 surgery, confirming that no further treatment is necessary. The brief statement provided a significant update on the popeʼs postoperative condition. “Dr. Luigi Carbone and Professor Stefano Margaritora report the following regarding the popeʼs postoperative recovery: Today, the final histological examinations and molecular biology tests on the tissue removed during the Holy Fatherʼs surgery were completed. The results confirmed that it was pulmonary adenocarcinoma and that the disease was localized. A subsequent oncological assessment confirmed that no further treatment is necessary,” the statement said. The news that Pope Leo XIV will not require additional treatment following his surgery is an announcement that the world had been awaiting. Pope Leo XIV was discharged from Romeʼs Gemelli Hospital on Oct. 17 and returned to the Vatican. On Oct. 21, he held his first general audience since the operation. Appearing to be in excellent spirits, the pope was undeterred by the rain in Rome. He wanted to be close to the faithful and thank them for their prayers for his health. Every October 22nd, the Church celebrates the feast of Saint John Paul II, the pilgrim Pope. He traveled the world bringing the Gospel to all corners of the earth: 104 trips, 129 countries, millions of miles. And his final journey took him to France. He returned to Lourdes—a place that held a special piece of his heart, the shrine of the Virgin Mary, to whom he had entrusted his entire life: Totus Tuus, “Totally Yours.” Lourdes, in August 2004, was his final destination. Months later, he would depart for the Father’s house. There, with his strength fading, he gave the world his greatest lesson. He preached not with a speech, but with his frailty. The world saw him pray with all his heart, in tears, unafraid to show his weakness before cameras from across the globe. This giant sustained the Church and the world until his dying breath. Saint John Paul II, pray for us.

Three months since he collapsed, I finally had the opportunity to see and meet my leader, @kizzabesigye1! Before meeting him, I had imagined so many things about his appearance and current condition. It broke my heart to see that he is now being taught how to walk and talk again. A speech therapist was using a word chart with simple words like "dog" and "boy," which KB is supposed to try his hardest to pronounce, though he hasn’t succeeded yet. KB uses an alphabetical letter chart where he taps out letters for you to write down and piece together what he is saying. Sensing that I was shocked about his current state, he pointed that “it could have been worse.” We both would laugh when he would check my notes and realize I had written something completely different from what he was spelling out! 🙈🙈 I tried to defend myself by saying that’s what he had tapped, and we would laugh again. When I ran out of excuses for my mistakes, I reminded him that my eyes aren't fully functional, which is why I wear glasses. 🙈 KB is now also an expert of sign language, when he gets tired of using the chat, he uses signs 😳 He hears very well, but he not able to talk yet. I commended his sharp brain of being able to communicate by tapping letters of alphabet. He doesn’t remember exactly what happened at court, he remembers waking up days later while in the ICU at Mulago. As we conversed, I was drinking water, When I offered him a bottle as well, I was reminded that he cannot hold a bottle of water on his own. His hands aren’t firm, they are shaky and lack strength. He stated that we are back in the 1890s but encouraged us to hang in there. He said that under the current regime, just staying alive is an achievement. Salongo @EriasLukwago is his neighbor in the same facility, but they have never met. I informed him how Lukwago was taken to Mulago. Seeing KB in state he is was incredibly painful, but his enduring spirit and sharp mind remind me why he is the leader he is. Please keep KB in your thoughts and prayers as he walks this long, difficult road to recovery. His resilience gives me hope that we will get through this dark chapter. Long live KB🙏🏻 #FreeKizzaBesigye #freeallpoliticalprisoners
