Hello Alex Alex Alex, Let me summarize the book UNELECTED in a nutshell. The Industrial Revolution created a class of private citizens with unimaginable wealth. Many were reviled as robber barons (e.g., Rockefeller of Standard Oil). Others had a better image, like Andrew Carnegie. These new rich decided because they had money, they had a responsibility to do good by the world. So they started building global philanthropic networks that could go into every country. In order to do so, they hired Department of State and Department of War and other state officials. They quickly took over the country's education system starting in the 1920s to train them in the "international mind." When the intelligence community truly sprang up in World War II, the IC hired from ... these same shadowy philanthropic networks. And after WWII, they all coalesced on the same goal: the best chance at achieving a human utopia is to bring the entire world to "democracy." Except it turns out converting countries to democracy isn't so simple as just financing CIA coups. Did all those NGOs question their own assumption might be flawed - that not every peoples, not every culture and religion is compatible with "democracy"? No. Instead, the Trilateral Commission in the 1970s concluded that a more technocratic route was necessary. And over many iterations - the Balkans and African adventures of the 90s, the Iraq & Afghanistan ventures, Arab Spring and color revolutions ... every failed iteration of "democracy" always resulted in the same conclusion: the people are dumb, we have to try harder, put more pressure on them, tighten the screws. And now you have become fully self-referential. Anyone who disagrees with you is "authoritarian." Anyone who agrees with you is "our democracy." Voting methods doesn't matter. That the judiciary system blatantly stole the election doesn't matter. And nowhere this is more obvious in your 30th anniversary publication. In your 30th anniversary publication, you had an article from your longtime head of Open Society Fund-Serbia, Sonja Licht. She also happens to be one of the most decorated civilians in Europe and widely considered an expert in "democracy:" 🔹 Pro Merit Medal of the Council of Europe 🔹 Star of Italian Solidarity 🔹 French Legion of Honour Her solution: "I believe the time has come for a responsible, courageous elite, those who care far more about addressing the genuine social problems than about election results. Only a political elite with vision, prudence and a focus on the general good—to whom the electorate, with their active involvement in public life, can cede part of their sovereignty in the elections... spearhead... our struggle to survive." Read that again. The idea of democracy as pushed by the head of one of your foundations is to literally stop "election results" and to have the public cede their trust to a technocratic elite. End democracy to save democracy itself. This is the final form of a project that started a hundred years ago to spread free markets and create global peace and instill self-governance throughout the world. This is your legacy, Alex Soros. Your father spent his life fighting Communism. You, as his protege, will spend your life perfecting Communism. In the name of "democracy."

BREAKING: Brazil's election could be annulled, according to the New York Times. Electoral lawyers say Brazil's current situation is "extremely serious" and a "critical situation." The NYT reports that confusion over a last-minute voting extension by Justice Cristiano Zanin, who was appointed by Lula, could lead to the election being annulled. "This is an extremely serious, critical situation," said electoral lawyer Priscilla Sodré Pereira to the New York Times. When Zanin made the last-minute decision to extend voting hours, some polling stations had already closed and shut down their voting machines. They could not reopen. "Fernando Neisser, an electoral law professor at Fundação Getulio Vargas, a Brazilian research institute, said the election could be annulled if the margin is very narrow and it is shown that polling stations stayed open longer in areas that strongly favor one candidate," the NYT reported. Wow.

Barack Obama was horrible in a million different ways, but he doesn’t get anywhere near the hate he deserves for destroying the used car market for an entire generation. 15-year-old cars with 150,000 miles that should be selling for $3,000 are going for $15,000. It’s abominable. Pure destruction and thievery.

My parents paid $16,000 for the house I grew up in. It’s now worth $783,000 on Zillow. Sounds like they made a fortune, right? In gold terms, that house cost 450 ounces in 1962. At today’s gold price, it’s worth 250 ounces. The house actually lost value. Politicians get away with robbing working class people blind because most people don’t realize their nominal gains aren’t real gains. They think they’re inflation-adjusted rich, but they’re not.

Evangelicalism will remain the default mode of Christianity as long as Christianity remains disestablished. In the absence of the ability to apply political and material coercion on religious matters, Evangelical personal religion remains the default.
Ross is right about the vibrancy of evangelicalism. But a distinction needs to be made. The strongest currents of Protestantism in the US are Wesleyan, not Calvinist, Pentecostal rather than Presbyterian. When intellectual Protestants wax triumphant about an “evangelical century,” they are celebrating the success of a form of Christianity that differs in significant ways from their own. I was raised in a non-denominational evangelical church. When I became “young, restless, and Reformed,” my parents were alarmed. They asked the pastor how to handle my evident defection from the faith. Whatever I believed, they thought, it wasn’t true Christianity. Intellectual Protestants—the kind who attend Anglican churches or imbibe high-proof Calvinist texts—represent traditions of belief that have helped shape this country. But in terms of sociology and doctrine, they are alienated from the most vigorous contemporary expressions of American Christianity.

um? This seems quite unreal. Any confirmations?
The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) has officially mandated the rebaptism of Ukrainian Orthodox Christians and banned them the use of the Ukrainian language in divine services. On October 22, the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church approved a document titled "Guidelines for the Reception of Individuals from Ukrainian Schismatic Structures Wishing to Join the Russian Orthodox Church." It applies to people in Russian-occupied territories who were previously affiliated with the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP), or the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU). The document outlines three procedures for joining the ROC. Notably, it stipulates that individuals baptized within the OCU, UOC-KP, or UAOC must undergo the Sacrament of Baptism again to join the ROC. Different rules apply to those originally baptized within the ROC, the Roman Catholic Church, or a Protestant denomination. Regarding the accession of entire congregations to the ROC, the document states that such a community may not demand a distinct liturgical order or a special administrative status. Furthermore, the use of any language other than Church Slavonic in divine services is prohibited—even though the ROC elsewhere permits the use of various other languages, ranging from English to Japanese.

What is this about since no doctrines are impacted? From my end, it would mean having to accept a watered down view of Scripture since these books can at best be defended as pious fiction even though they were canonized as historical books. From the Roman side, they have to affirm these books or their church made a mistake and that cannot happen for the trads. Many of them converted for epistemic certainty. Can you imagine admitting a mistake like this? Better Scripture’s infallibility is burned to the ground than admit the church is fallible.

What critical doctrines does the apochypha impact? I just read it as a history of the Maccabee rebellion, the miracle of the lights, and maybe an obscure, indirect, hint of a "purgatory?" Is that all the fight is about?

Your official list comes from after the Reformation started.
Christ didn’t give us a list of books, but a Church. You can accept the list from the Church, or make up your own. You can accept the faith handed down through the Church, or make up your own religion.

Pat Buchanan, 1999: “By moving NATO onto Russia’s front porch, we have scheduled a twenty-first century confrontation. … America will face a hellish dilemma: risk confrontation with a nuclear-armed Russia determined to recreate its old sphere of influence, or renege on solemn commitments and see NATO collapse.” Therefore, he said, “Offering NATO memberships to Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and, as some urge, Ukraine is rashness bordering on madness.” Referring to maps the Clinton team must have ignored, Buchanan warned, “This would put the Russian base at Kaliningrad behind NATO lines and bring into a U.S.-led alliance three nations with huge Russian minorities.” Foreseeing future conflict, he observed that “Latvia is almost half Russian; eastern Ukraine, almost entirely Russian. America could neither defend nor liberate these nations without the risk of nuclear war.” Pat Buchanan, A Republic, Not an Empire: Reclaiming America’s Destiny (New York: Regnery, 1999), 17–18, 22.

You get in there and tell him what he believes.
Craig Truglia (@Craig_Truglia) said during his closing statements that he is Russian Orthodox and that his church officially uses the 66 book canon that Protestants also use. This is false. The Russian Orthodox Church does not use a 66-book Bible. The official Bible authorized by the Holy Synod and printed by the Moscow Patriarchate is the Russian Synodal Bible, and it contains 77 books. Open any official Moscow Patriarchate Bible. Inside you will find Tobit, Judith, Wisdom, Sirach, Baruch, 1, 2, and 3 Maccabees, 2 and 3 Esdras, and the additions to Esther and Daniel. The Synod of Jerusalem in 1672 explicitly condemned reducing Scripture to the Protestant canon and accepts the deuterocanonical books as inspired.
