When will we have the courage to face the reality? In deprived, former industrial towns, predominently in the north, Brexit was a protest from communities left behind for decades. Every election since has sent the same message, surely we can't blame it all on Putin? When will we stop looking for conspiracies and bogeymen and start listening to the people that feel like they have been failed, ignored, and left behind.
The English left tradition has largely been abandoned. Now it’s mostly people larping as Attlee stans or Bennites while showing little understanding of either figure or their politics. What’s replaced it is mostly just slopulism (Green Party) or briefcase careerists (Labour).
The Dutch left is so annoying because it doesn’t have any substance. At least the English, German, and French left have an intellectual tradition.
