It’s reported today that Sally Rooney, who many believe is one of the best authors of her generation, has been advised that because she has expressed support for Palestine Action she could be arrested if she comes to the UK. Because she is donating some of the money from the sale of her books to Palestine Action her publishers have been advised that they too could be prosecuted if they sell her books in any form and so they have removed them from the bookshelves and other outlets. I do not want anyone in the UK to miss out on her wonderful writing and so I thought I would read the first paragraphs of her terrific book “Normal People.” I hope others will read further sections of the book so that people do not lose out on the joy of reading h her works.

Barristers, solicitors, judges and supporters gather outside the Old Bailey on the anniversary of Bushel’s case in 1670. The event was in order to show support and solidarity for Rajiv Menon KC, whom the senior judiciary is attempting to imprison for words spoken by him during a closing speech on 8/1/26 at Woolwich Crown Court.
Menon is believed to be the first barrister in British history to be prosecuted for contempt of court for words spoken during a closing speech.

The Met Police arrested people for all sorts of ludicrous reasons, including putting down a tiny stand so that people sharing poetry and song could be heard.
No amplification was used at all. One muslim woman was arrested for simply greeting the crowd. She said nothing unlawful.

We will be arguing in the Supreme Court that the ban is unlawful, as it is disproportionate to free speech and the right to protest.
