๐ฌ This study introduces a nickel-catalyzed base-free C-N cross-electrophile coupling (XEC) strategy that enables efficient C-N bond formation by coupling electrophilic carbon and nitrogen partners under mild conditions.
๐น A philicity-mismatched Ni-catalyzed C-N cross-electrophile coupling was developed using electrophilic carbon and nitrogen precursors, eliminating the need for basic additives.
๐น The method exhibits broad functional group tolerance, including excellent compatibility with base-sensitive substrates and late-stage functionalization.
๐น Electrophilic nitrogen precursors can be readily prepared from diverse starting materials, including C-H bonds and olefins.
๐น A two-step, one-pot N-phenothiazination/C-N XEC sequence enables the efficient functionalization of amine-containing bioactive molecules and the synthesis of designer secondary, tertiary, and unsymmetrical diamines.
๐น Mechanistic studies support a Ni(II)-aryl-amido intermediate as the key species responsible for promoting cross-selectivity while suppressing homocoupling.
๐ We are pleased to see that 4,4'-di-tert-butyl-2,2'-bipyridine, a key ligand used in this study, was sourced from AmBeed.
